People here act like Mario is some garbage average player when he's always been tops in the NFL as far as pass-rushing and DE play has been. It's no coincidence he got that big contract off of his PAST play in Houston. Not only could get get after the QB but he was extremely underrated in stopping the run...also...Clowney is a better prospect than Mario was. Which is crazy to say but also true.
He stood on his combine time. _______________________________ Mario was a good to very good player, not great. Clowney will probably be a good to very good player. Once in a generation talent? Stop it. Andrew Wiggins was mentioned (in the Clowney thread) - same there. Once in a generation? Stop it. Elite, great, rare, once in a generation,...man very easy to be that now days.
From looking around, it looks like Miller ran the same 4.53 at the combine that Clowney did. It was at his pro day that Miller ran the faster 4.49. This makes Clowney's time even crazier at his size.
That is one amazingly crazy video. Photoshop is unbelievable. Forget defense, make Clowney a receiver. Who could tackle him? Not many defensive backs could catch him.
Especially in this draft when there are scouts who say that Watkins had the best pro day they have seen by a WR in the past 10 years, it can be argued that Robinson is just as much as a physical freak than Clowney, and Mack is impressive as well... And all 3 have better tape in their final season than Clowney and so does Johnny, Teddy, and Blake (and the Texans can trade back with Buffalo and probably still have their choice between all three of them). And even if Clowney does turn out to be "GREAT" how much does that actually help this defense...??? Difference is Miller's 40 time translates on the field. It's a lot different with pads and a helmet on trying to bend the corner around a 300 lb offensive tackle. Clowney's combine 40 time doesn't show on tape. And it definitely didn't show when Blake Bortles got away from him TWICE when Clowney was unblocked. 4.5 40 time Clowney couldn't run down a 4.9 40 time Blake... Hmmmm....!!!!! J.J. didn't have a fast 40 time but nobody gets to the quarterback faster. Go figure.
More than a WR does, that is for sure. DLinemen are some of the highest paid players in the NFL. Calvin Johnson is one of the best WRs to ever play in the NFL and look at the impact he has on his team. Hell, just look at the impact Andre Johnson has had on his team. Having a great WR doesn't do much unless you have a really good QB throwing him the ball. Meanwhile...look at the teams that DO win superbowls. Do they do so with a average pass-rush?
My first thought is why are you people just now seeing this gif when it's been all over the place? Then I realize they probably haven't been paying much attention until now and I get jealous that they haven't had to read all the **** slinging and wishy washiness going on the last couple months...
