Mack is a better scheme gift. He's got a better motor. You have to cover in Romeo's 3-4 and Mack can do it. This guy forces fumbles, sacks QBs, and gets INTs. He's so versitile and he plays angry. I think Ive come around to Mack #1 if we have to make the pick, but I'd love to trade back to #3, pick up a 2nd rounder and grab Mack at #3.
My only problem with Mack is that he's unproven against legitimate competition and he has basically no versatility, he's an OLB and that's all he can be. He'd be a big bonus when dropping into coverage and he might even add a bit of pass rushing if he is left unblocked but IMO he's not really a game changer.
Really the thing that stands out to me when it comes to Mack's pass rush is that despite playing completely awful teams week after week, over 37% of his sacks game when he was completely unblocked, a higher percentage than any of the guys considered this draft's top rated pass rushers. For comparison's sake, Clowney hasn't been unblocked in 2 years and Barr was also never unblocked last year.
Yeah I'm gonna have to disagree. He destroyed OSU. He was the best player on the field by a mile. And he's a great passrusher. We need guys that create turnovers and kill QBs. That's what Mack does. And I also disagree with your contention that he can't play 4-3 DE when we change scheme. No reason he can't. I'm sold
Watch the Baylor game. Baylor didn't ignore him and didn't have a rookie on him like OSU did for a lot of the game and due to that he was a total non-factor.
http://youtu.be/zTPtgf0s4ew Here's a link, is it a Baylor highlight reel or just Mack vs Baylor? Hard to tell the difference.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/02/mcnair-sheds-more-light-on-texans-plans/ On my phone, sso it's too much trouble to post the body of the article, but Mike Florio thinks McNair let slip more than intended exactly how much they want to trade out of Clowney and select a QB.
I think what he let slip is that he didn't think any of the top 3 QB's were worth picking and that there was a group right behind them that could be had in the 2nd round who were just as good and could even be better in his opinion. Also that Clowney is Basically he said the top 3 guys and that Unless it's all a lie, I think we can all but eliminate any QB for contention as the overall top pick. I think given his statements, it's Clowney or trade back.
Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2014/story/_/id/10868265/skip-bayless-johnny-manziel-nfl
lol. Bayless comparing Manziel to Tebow and trying to make it sound like a good thing. Dude is on his on planet.
Clowney or trade is the best move... anything else would be a waste of the most valuable asset in the NFL
dude he will be just like Tebow! He will probably get whichever coach spends a first round pick on him fired, cause some sort of controversy when he gets benched and than end up working for ESPN in 5 years.
I'd watch out for Denver and New England. They could go QB and spoil the notion of any 1st Rd QB talent falling to round 2.
