Seems odd since he technically he will not be signed until later. They would only own the rights to sign him right?

Probably some dumb cap rule where the 4 million would technically remain on the original team's books.

    Houston's 1-1 pick value: 3,000
    Atlanta's 1-6 pick value: 1,600
    Atlanta's 2-38 pick value: 520
    Atlanta's 3-70 pick value: 240

Atlanta would have to give us a lot to move up from 6 to 1. Likely their 2nd rounder + a first rounder from next season.

i don't think the NFL pick value scales are relevant anymore given how much more important the draft and the rookie pay scale are under the new collective bargaining agreement.

ok so what is your estimate of what Atlanta could offer us for the pick?

How about their 1st 6th overall, 3rd and next years 1st

That seems very fair for us getting value and if Atlanta feels they are going to be good next year it is a late 1st and a 3rd

On it's face, it would seem that trading would've been harder before the rookie pay scale with more money going to the #1 pick and most likely a larger difference in salaries between the #1 and #6 picks.

That's what I would hope they could get in return but I would also be happy with their 2nd and 3rd round pick in this year's draft or two 2nd round picks (this year's and next year's).

The more picks the Texans can get in the 2nd and 3rd round of this year's draft the better.

Oh was he just talking about a trade scenario? There's no way they pick someone only to trade him later, honestly there is very little chance that they do anything other than just picking Clowney and moving on to the 2nd round.

no idea. wasn't trying to undermine your post, just thinking that there is no way those value charts can be accurate anymore with the increased value of picks.

I suppose it actually comes down to what the market will bare as opposed to some prescribed formula.

my point is that i don't really see how we can know what moving back is truly worth, until we know what is being offered. In this case the market will set the value, as opposed to the formula setting the value. there are likely more teams that want to move back rather than up, basically rendering the formula useless.

Pick Clowney and if Manziel falls to Atlanta, make the swap? Sure, why not.

If that happens I would trade down with Atlanta then keep trading down. I would love for them to end up with about 6 picks in the first 3 rounds if possible. So many freaking holes on this team.

    I'd trade down for this:

Texans trade : number 1 (Clowney)

Flacons trade: number 6 (Mack or Manziel), this years second round pick, next year's first.

That's a great trade. If Clowney is truly the generational talent they say, that's what it's for to cost. I'd only do this deal is Manziel or Mack is available at 6.

With next years pick, you take Andre Johnson's replacement.
