^^ Wouldn't shock me if we went with Greg Robinson. He would certainly help our QB development (whoever that might be). Clowney (who I prefer) might be too dumb/immature/lazy for BO'B. I'd still take Clowney, though.

At this point I have no idea what the Texans are going to do.

This is courtesy of Charlie Campbell of Walterfootball.com

This was from today’s Draft Maillbag column.

    From Tony, Tampa, Florida

"How is Houston going to be able to afford both Watt & Clowney if they took Clowney? I think Watt would be a FA next year & theyre not letting him go. Theyd have to put $$$$ into him & then if they took Clowney theyd have to put a bunch of $$$$ into him. So in about 2 or 3 years theyd be down the toilet with the two of them since theyd cost so much. I doubt they take Clowney (especially with how much both would cost). "

No. The complete opposite actually. J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney would be one of the cheapest duos of pass-rushers in the NFL over the next five years thanks to the rookie wage scale. Clowney’s rookie contract is going to be five years for about 25 million dollars. Over that time, Clowney could be one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL and will be a massive bargain at five milion dollars per year.

Even after Houston extends Watt, Clowney and Watt could annually cost less than what the Bucs paid Darrelle Revis last season. In four or five years, tbe Texans can reevaluate their roster then. They won’t be paying big money to Arian Foster at that point, along with other big contracts like Jonathan Joseph and Chris Myers. Houston should have the money to afford both in the long term – if the organization plans accordingly.

Yeah, the "he'll cost too much in 5 or 6 years" argument was always the second weakest argument against taking Clowney.

Interesting charts. I like seeing how Manziels stats compare to others. Just glancing over it, looks like he's near the top at combining accuracy and yards per attempt, which I think shows alot.

Also didn't realize how good Russel Wilson's numbers were at Wisconsin.

A lot of different names coming out of the Texans camp. Maybe they already know who they want and or know what they are going to do or maybe they are still hard at work on deciding.

They could be trying to fish the pick for a trade with all the names being thrown around. I see Robinson going #6 to Atlanta in some mock drafts. If the Texans aren't asking for an RG3 type haul for the pick they may could be a good trade partner. Just getting Robinson and a extra high 2nd round pick in this draft could be worth it alone considering how good Robinson is projected to be. Mack may be a player they could trade back and get as well.

Mack and Robinson sound like trade lingo to me if they are under consideration for being drafted by the Texans.

Two 2nd round picks (2014 and 2015) sound good. The Texans could use both of those picks if they want and trade back into the 1st round and still keep their original picks.

Usually the #1 pick is hard to trade. It doesn't help that there isn't as much talk about what the rams are going to do. If it looked like they wanted Clowney or Manziel for instance, then maybe a team that really wants him would want to trade up to the #1 pick.

The rams are in a good position at #2 again. So are the browns and the raiders.

Before the rookie wage scale, yes. Now it's just as easy to trade as any other pick.

    No it isn't.

It's hard to trade because the teams in the range of the top 5 aren't eager to give up more picks to move up to 1 because they are bad and have so many needs.

The team with the number 1 pick isn't all that eager to move down past 5 because there are usually 5 or so blue chippers and a team doesn't want to miss out on one of them on their board.

Atlanta is a perfect example. Does Atlanta really want to give up what it takes to get from 6 to 1? And how high a price will Houston want to be willing to go all the way down to 6?

Lots of talk that Rick Smith loves Mack more...

Draft Clowney and hope Mack drops to Atlanta. In that case, the Texans may be willing to trade after the picks come in...but the Texans should ask the world from Atlanta...

Why should they ask and or expect the world. Especially when Mack is considered by many a blue chip prospects and a better fit for Romeo's defense.

I've lost confidence in Rick Smith. This is the same guy that brought us Amobi Okoye and Kareem Jackson with first round picks. Ed Reed nailed the coffin door closed.

Thing is, Bob McNair shows waaaaaaaaaay too much loyalty to his troops.

He sticks by people long past the point they've proven themselves a beacon of mediocrity.

    Kubiak.

    Schaub.

    Smith.

I wouldn't worry about that rumor, drafting Mack is a decision with a really high chance of being a "get you fired" type of decision IMO. That's not to say that there isn't a pretty good chance that Mack will be a decent pick, but passing on every QB and Clowney for a kid from Johnny Buckwheat Jr college is certainly bold.

I cling to the belief that he's nothing more than a figurehead. His opinion having much less weight than B Ob or McNair.

To be fair, he also drafted Duane Brown, Brain Cushing, JJ Watt*...

(And Kareem Jackson is back to being a bust? When did that happen?)

*(And please spare us the, "It was actually so-and-so who drafted him" crap... You're not in the room; you have no idea. You can't retroactively select which picks are his and which picks aren't because you tend to sort of, kind of bias yourself when you do that...)
