Yes, no need to have played better at all in that series, and good thing there's no chance we're playing any more 7-foot defensive MVPs in the near future

Would a 'stretch center' have helped? That's all the discussion is here, and sure seems to be at least as intriguing a question for the front office than many of the other threads here. Or maybe that's not what the haters like to talk about.

Of course if we're guaranteed of winning the whole thing as is, then we're set.

Yea... the Rockets should have elite modern players at every position.

Are defensive, 3 point shooting centers readily available?

Can we also grab a long, athletic, defensive, 3 point shooting wing?

Why didn't Faried let some 3s fly vs the jazz I wonder. He showed in the regular season he appears to have the range (obvs small sample size)

Disappointed he didn't take advantage of that. Might have stayed in the rotation of he could make Rudy respect his range.

I wish Gary Clark was really good at the things Gary Clark does.

Defense and rebounding. His rebounding is weakest part of his game right now. I like the rest of your points.

Hopefully, a solid off season and more experience can lead to more success in the next season.

If our center went out to the perimeter wouldnt the other team just switch... leaving their center under the basket 'defending' the nearest guy...

o/w idk what Mareese Speights is up to the days if Hartenstein isnt ready... .369 & .372 on 3.4-4.5 attempts his last 2 years in the league from 3... ;)

    Don't you eye-roll me!!!!

    Kidding. :)

Absolutely a stretch center would help, in a backup role for spot duty when needed. But it's really NOT that simple.

We want a stretch center who can also guard the perimeter. Otherwise, there's no point in having him. We bring in Mr. Three-Point-Specialist Center to force Gobert off the floor, and they counter with a small-ball lineup that chews up the defensive deficiencies of our hotshot 3-point guy.

When it comes to centers, you want someone who can check off as many boxes as possible: rim protector, good-hands finisher, rebounder, and perimeter defender. Capela checks 3 out of 4 boxes. Hartenstein, at this point in his career, checks half of two boxes maybe.

Sorry for not buying into a serious discussion of whether the ideal perfect guy would be an asset to us, because of course he would. But I'm not sure I could name a single center in the league who excels (or is even adequate) in all 4 areas you hope a center would be. So until that guy comes along, give me the one who covers most of that ground AND is already on our roster, and we devise schemes that make what we have work better.

Meanwhile, it just took us only five games to beat a really good team, while our current center was pretty ill. Sure, demolishing the Jazz in a 4-game sweep would have been ideal, but as the Warriors are learning, sweeps against decent teams aren't easy. I'm perfectly fine with Capela and our 5-game series win.

Then this summer, look for a 3-point shooting PF who can play C in a small-ball lineup. Let's not pretend that Center is our biggest area of weakness.

have you not watched the milwaukee bucks ? brook lopez is a key to their success. it completely opens up the paint for giannis to just drive straight to the basket every time. he is not just a center that shoot 3s, hes a legit sniper.

i love clint, but I would love a center off the bench who could really shoot it and give james that same advantage.

Do you not understand that since Yannis is 7 feet he covers up everything Lopez is weak at as a minus rebounder and rim protector.

    This is not NBA 2K.

who cares ? the cavs used channing frye off the bench, and when lebron played with the reserves it was one of their deadliest lineups because they just surrounded a great scorer and playmaker with shooters. he could not be stopped. you would give up a layup or a 3 everytime. the same could happen for james. the bucks would not be a 60 win team without lopez

Switch onto who? The idea is to have all 5 players behind the 3 point line.

Channing Frye was glued to the bench when they played in the finals.

It's official you have no clue what you are talking about.

The reason they won the chip was because Thompson was a beast on the boards and he could switch.

you dont know what you're talking about clown. who said ANYTHING about when they won the title ? you talk about one series but not others before where he did play and was an important piece. its about having the option to change things up on a defense. it would be great to have the option you peon.

At what point does spacing the floor turn into crowding the arc?

Hey , OP said next year . I agree

I think Morey and co are pencilling him in as our backup for next year . I also think we are gonna lose farried . Farried isn't that great on the defensive glass either .

...but back on the topic, I am not opposed to a stretch 5 with post moves from Lithuania.

Dude yes thank you! That’s what I keep saying. If we had Jamycheal Green we would be unstoppable.
