But you wouldn't really be losing a combination of contributors.

The Pelicans pick, Beverley and Dmo aren't contributing right now.

Seems like the perfect Monta Ellis replacement to secure Dallas' 6-8th seed & first round loss next year.

Would the Nuggets go for something like that? I'd be fine with that deal if the Rockets resigned all of their free agents and everyone could stay healthy next season. They'd be 2 deep at every position. Talentwise that could arguably be the best team in the league.

    Why aren't you?

We are currently in the playoffs with these guys. We don't know how good this team is. But it is atleast good enough to get to the second round.

Under this scenario, you can add Ty Lawson, to this second round team, without losing ANY contributors, and be better.

So you'd trade our starting PF, starting PG, and the Pels pick for Lawson? That's overpaying and the money doesn't come anywhere near working.

Why would we want Lawson? He has the same issues that Rondo would have had on this team. He is not a good shooter, and he needs the ball in his hands to be productive. Does not fit with Harden.

I wish the Rockets just signed Patty Mills last year. That guy is the perfect fit next to Harden.

That comment made me laugh. Lin is nowhere near Lawson. Lawson is an ace playmaker who takes care of the ball and a reliable mid range shooter. I like the odds of hiding his defensive deficiencies with Dwight Howard behind him are better than Jeremy Lin becoming a 9 assist a games guy.

He started out that way, but he's been getting worse and worse every season.

and even if the numbers show that, he's still pretty respectable.

Fair enough, but his numbers would have to stop dropping or they wouldn't remain respectable long. Right now he's coming off a season with 34% 3 point shooting, that's lower than the Rockets team average and is right at the bare minimum acceptable level. Another drop puts him below the acceptable level.

Also, who would we even trade for him? He's got a 12 million dollar cap hit and we don't have very many high salary guys.

Lawson is nothing like Rondo or Rubio. I get that the Nugs suck and noone watches them but come on. He will help a LOT in bringing down TOs and in offence. But the backcourt will be the worst defensive backcourt in the league. Even with Dwight and Ariza it will show.

i would expect his number to be very solid if he was on this team. as far as trade im not sure. I definitely wouldn't want to give up a lot for him

No, I am simply looking at it from a logical perspective.

As of this very moment, the current group of "contributors" is at minimum a second round team. You could make "this team" better without losing any contributors.

In practice, I would look for a third team to move Jones to for a pick in this years draft (Indy at 11, OKC at 14, Bos at 16) and package that pick with the Pelicans pick (plus filler) for Lawson.

do you realise that the Mavs was one of the weakest playoff teams in the West and if it hadn't been for these guys contributions in the regular season the Rockets wouldn't get the second seed and face them?
Playoff success depends a lot on match ups and seedings. If it wasn't for DMO , with Dwight being injured so long the Rockets wouldn't be the second seed.

But yes Jones can be traded for a late lottery pick esp in this draft. Indy and OKC won't trade because they need rookie contracts and neither will Boston because of fit but the Hornets and the Suns will be interested.
It will also open up capspace for next season and the Rockets will be more safe to pursue FA next season without fearing losing their own RFA.
I think Jones and the NOP pick can also bring Demar or Lowry to the Rockets.

We talking about defense. It's already stretched and Howard will rack up the fouls with a player like Lawson.

We have Jason Terry as our starting pg and you are worried about a drop in defense? Ty Lawson average 10 assists a game last season and shoots 37% from 3 pt line for his career. He would be a good fit for Harden. If he was a stud defensively, he would not be available.

Yea, this is more rhetoric than actual fact.

Both the Mavs and Clippers have been great offensive teams. Howard has gotten into some foul trouble but mostly from his moving screens, not rim protection.

This Lawson defense thing is completely overblown.

Another thing to consider is that if we are trading for Lawson, that in no way prevents us from retaining Beverley in free agency. Having an offensive and defensive specialist at the position allows great flexibility for in game strategy.
