None played even a single minute tonight. McHale has some to explaining to do. Thought this season was all about the development of our young guys? That garbage 8-man rotation simply doesn't work.
No he doesn't. The JH deal changes everything about this team, including the development of the rookies. They will be brought on slowly, only after the chemistry of the starters and the first subs have been established. I expect jones will be worked in first, then d-mo and white later.
I'm hoping they were putting morris and douglas on display to trade, but they definitely didn't help that cause.
highly unsurprised here. He's old-school and wants them to see what an actual NBA game is like before he throws them to the lions. They'll get time this season, and possible quite soon.
This. You don't just throw rookies out there, let them develop the right way the to play and let the vets guide them and teach them. And like this guy said, the starters need chemistry, Harden just got there FFS. I also don't mind giving the vets some burn to show what they got, Morris waited a whole year so give him a shot. You let rooks run wild and you get the Washington Wizards, which probably set back John Wall about 2 years.
detroit's rookies on the other hand, were 'fed to the lions' and delivered fantastic opening night debuts
If you looked at Detroit's roster though, they don't exactly have alot of depth. Those rooks are part of the rotation by default.
Very surprised to not see Jones with the way Morris played tonight. You could tell Morris was VERY nervous with the way he blew all those bunnies and fumbled away a few turnovers. I guess Mchale didn't want him to lose confidence but.....GEEZ!!!
we were playing against the pistons. they were also a young team. if not letting them play against a young team like pistons, when will he let them play? Throwing them to the lions is when letting them play against, Mavs, Heat, Lakers, Spurs, Thunder.
And lost. The only reasonable explanation is McHale refused to play rookies on principle, which may or may not be the right decision. Morris has not been playing the 4, so it made no sense to start him from a scheme standpoint. Patterson will start when hes healthy, and Jones/DMo/White will get opportunities soon enough. Morris will go back to the 3, and hopefully perform well enough to give us a scoring option on the 2nd team.
No. You play the best players. Morris isn't a vet, and Douglas isn't someone you want your rookies learning from.
We don't have alot of depth either, but Morris is still ahead of the rooks for now, just based on experience and knowing McHale's system. It was the first game out and the debut of Lin & Harden, you would think McHale and the team would want to win the game.
You missed the point. Playing rookies is something bad teams do, and very few of those teams actually become good in the future. There's something to be said for earning your way into the lineup and putting in time. Detroit's rookies played well, but they couldnt close us out. Morris had little impact on the game, one way or the other.
Don't get me wrong, the rookies need minutes. They'll get them and I would guess they'll get them soon. Tonight though, with our offensive identity completely changed in the last five days, was not the night to get them.
