Brian: You make a good point, but plagiarism doesn't really exist in the business any longer. Guys pay HUGE sums of money to sample beats or use loops from other songs. In fact, some artists make pretty good livings off of the samples of their old songs. A good example was a Steely Dan sample used in a rap song about 5 years ago brought in $15,000 plus 1 point (percentage point of sales of the single and one tenth of a point for album sales) and 20 percent of the publishing. In other instances, if there is no desire for revenue from album or single sales, people have gotten upwards of $100,000 per second of sample time!
