    I don't think it's such a bad thing....

1 year CP @ 1m, and then losing him to FA only to replace him with ?? at probably 5-10m is

    >

Losing CP and getting Ariza @ 8m is

    >>>>>>>>>

Matching CP and being stuck with that horrendous contract (extra points since Cuban is stuck with it)

I think we can all agree it was a catastrophic move and agent arm twisting is the only way to rationalize it.

I don't get that either. People forget he was a senior coming out of college. He's a year older than Harden and a month younger than Kevin Durant. His development on the offensive end was impressive but I just don't think he has the tools to ever become an elite shot creator.

Given the size of the contract, I think it's more likely to be catastrophic to the Mavs than it is to the Rockets.

It's a three-year deal coinciding with the end of the Dirk era. No matter how much they end up overpaying from a moneyball perspective, it's hardly likely to be "catastrophic."

If it's "agent arm twisting," is Dwight Howard now pissed at his agent?

I guess you didn't read the thread. OP makes a great point and explained why Morey gambled and Parsons is gone.

When it comes to losing Parsons, the immortal words of Sir Paul McCartney sum it up best.
"Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da life goes on, brah."

People just dont get it. At Parsons last contract with us, he was a great great player based on his value. However, dont forget he is getting 15 mills per year with a trade kicker in his current contract. Which means he is next to impossible to be traded. If we matched we got no cap room to sign any 3rd potential star to the team. Dont forget we still got holes to fill in pg, pf, and a backup center. Where could we find enough cap room to do all that???

Howard has 2 more years left on contract, are we banking on Parsons to lift us pass round 2 and maybe to the western final? Parson is young and has all the upsides, but does he have enough to get us there? We are all banking on this uncertainly if we match him. Morey's answer is no, If we have Bosh as our PF then by matching Parson makes sense. If not, then its not a good idea. Right now we got flexibility, maybe nothing during the summer, however as we getting closer to the trade deadline, there will be teams looking to dump contracts or players who is not happy.

We have to maintain positive by keeping Howard and Harden locked for long term so we could build this team around them.

Cuban may be laughing now, but he wont be happy including Dirk if everything goes sour in Dallas.

All of this blah blah blah on why Morey did this or that is meaningless. If the Rockets make it to the finals or at least the western conference finals then Morey is a genius. If we don't and Parsons proves he's worth that max contract than Morey is a dumb @$$ because he had his 3rd star right under his nose.

Yeah but Morey couldn't know how desperate Cuban was to have something, ANYTHING to show to the MFFLs - that I can understand. But Morey did know (or should have known) that the Mavs were interested in Parsons because they said so publicly after the Rockets made him a RFA. His mistake was operating with the belief that they (Mavs) would offer a "reasonable" contract in the $8-$12M range when there was really no justification in doing so IMO. He thought he was playing MoneyBall when in actuality, the game was Texas Hold'em. When you play poker, you have to be prepared to go all in. Morey wasn't and he didn't. As for the unfavorable terms of the Mavs offer sheet, Morey really cannot cry foul because it was he who set the precedent of doing just that to other teams in the past.

It's FAR worse than that. The MFFLs are now gleeping over the possibility that in two years, CP25 will be able to help them recruit Howard, Durant, LeBron and even Oscar Robertson out of retirement. They are guzzling the blue koolaid up here.

Even if we had retained Parsons that extra year at $1M, people would still be up in arms if he were traded mid-season.

    Lose-lose.

He's certainly not a guy you give the ball to with 20 seconds left in the game and say "OK, go make the winning shot." Also not your best 3-point shooter. How may last shots will go to him?

Remember the Memphis game when he hit 10 3's? McHale tried to give Chandler a shot to win it and he failed miserably. I thought it was a pretty stupid idea. McHale should have known that Chandler does not have that in him.

Of course he was the only one that showed up that night...

It depends on the type of risk/reward. If bosh had signed and we kept Parsonsat a decent it would've been a dynasty. Now even if we lost Parsons....its still just Parsons not Dwight or Harden. I'm not losing sleep over CP, Ariza with Paps and TD fills his shoes adequately.

It wasn't a HUGE risk IMHO because CP is replaceable. It was low risk high reward like when we got that be well dude.
