I don't want to steal tinman's thunder, but I thought this was a well written and compiled blog.

    http://thepaintedarea.blogspot.com/2008/09/hakeem-and-ewing-enter-hall.html

Great stuff.. there is more there at the blog talking about both players, but I wanted to quote that Mutombo reply.

Seriously go read the rest! :)

I remember reading the The Mutumbo quote back in a May 1994 issue of Sports Illustrated on the NBA finals - the issue one or two before they f-ked the Rockets over by running the cover of the US beating a mediocre and overrated Colombian soccer team in the WC.

I still remember how the New York media were bad mouthing the city of Houston with quotes like, "THIS PLACE IS A HELLHOLE!" during the Finals.

I'm sure SI shared the same sentiments about Houston hence the disrespect.

No doubt, Ewing wasn't nearly the center Olajuwon was. A very solid player, but never got the rings. Not for a lack of trying though

    LOL. Good one.

As David Aldridge said, "You worried about his health, he sweated so bad."

If I never hear Adrian Dantley give another speech, I will be better off for it. Nobody's gonna be awake for Hakeem.

Anyone sense some bitterness and/or some anger in Dantley's speech?

Sort of, yea. I also sensed some downright horrible public speaking skills. Not that he's supposed to be good at that or anything but it was pretty unbearable to listen to.

Nice read. It reminds me of one of my all time favorite basketball memories.

I was a season ticket holder of many years by the time the 94 finals rolled around. For the finals John Thompson and Zo Mourning sat in the seats directly behind my friend and me. We chatted with them during the timeouts - Thompson was loud, funny and profane; Zo was quiet, professional and very polite. They were both obviously rooting for Patrick and the Knicks. :D

    Good times. :)

Sweating like Patrick Ewing at the free throw line.

Spoken like an East Coast writer-Michael Wilbon http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/03/AR2008090303921.html?sub=AR writes:

Huddled up? Wore a t-shirt? Who was it that said when asked who he'd rather play against, Olajuwan or Ewing, replied Ewing because Hakeem gets all the rebounds? If this is what passes for sports commentary in one of our premier newspapers, it's no wonder print media are headed down the toilet. Sheesh!
