mehhh...our fault for letting our guards down and letting blake get the easy gimme but also there was no foul on that play.
I have seen it a few times. The last one I remember was that Pop was going to call a timeout and Parker saw the other team stopped and drove to the basket for a layup. Nothing wrong. Players must wait for the whistle before they stop.
I would imagine, now that I've been updated on the actual popularity of this trick, that it is something the coach probably lets the player make a call on. Its probably one of those things that hardly ever sets up perfectly, but when it does, the PG has the go ahead to make it happen.
During the Steve Francis/Mobley era they did it couple times. This was not the first time I seen that.
Rockets did it more than once before... It wasn't a Smith, Cassell, yada yada, anyone specific tactic. It was Rudy's thing! Rudy would always stress that the PG sniff out the fake timeout layup. Rudy=genius, not tacky.
If you look at the replay, it was Brooks' problem. He was NOT in the position to guard Blake. It's his job to make sure he's still in position to guard Blake because that's his man. Who else would guard Blake but YOU BROOKS!! Because Blake realize Brooks is out of position...he attacked the basket. Brooks has very low IQ imo ...that is why Lowry will eventually start over him.
I recall a circumstance in which McGrady actually pulled this trick, and it worked. Meh, if teams don't play defense on every tick of the clock it is worth running, otherwise eff it.
You're right. We should stop all discussion about things that we would feel differently about from a different point of view.
I'm glad it happened because it didnt cost us the game but it could have so the players will not be as relaxed next time when the game is on the line.
It's the same. Action is drawn upon desperation. No one is tricking anyone. It's called playing straight up without having to resort to gimmicks (i.e., flopping, lying). Anyways, if the Rockets pulled this, I'd die a little inside.
