That whole article is Bullshit. A hit piece on O'Brien. Mahomes was O'Brien first chose, Watson was DEFINITELY his 2nd. Brooks and Quinn were YEARS before on O'Brien. Sounds like someone was a fan of Rick Smith.
He is a great talent with a penchant for the stupid - did it again in Eagles game - lowered his head 15 yards..... DD
I'm not saying this to you, rather to the guy you quoted but that's just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I really don't get either A) signing clowney to an extension or B) trading him. Hopefully he doesn't walk for nothing.
I would trade Clowney for a Mack like deal. His numbers are comparable and the Texans really need Corners and Tackles.
How many offensive penalties was he responsible for (false starts, holding, etc...)? How many uncalled holds were there?
I hope they get a deal done with him in the ballpark of $18 mil a year. I don't want him for over $20 a year, despite his production and ability. I feel it would set the team back by handcuffing us, cap-wise, when Watson get said big deal.
Money for Clowney could be one reason Texans go Dline with their first pick. I can't see them giving him a JJ like contract and he just may be expecting one - I guess we will find out. Another factor is that this is a strong draft for dlinemen. I like the idea of trading him for a high pick.
For what it's worth, Pat Starr seems very confident that Clowney will be locked up long term as a Texan. Says the only reason he'll be franchised is to extend the time frame to get a long term deal done. He said Clowney wants to be in Houston because of his respect for O'Brien as a coach and a human. He also says both sides want to get a deal done when it comes to Honey Badger.
