BoB could not have handled this year's QB situation any worst but don't think you can a guy after 1.5 years for it alone. The coaching has been abysmal this year without a doubt but canning a coach this soon sets a precedent we don't want for this franchise. We just don't know what we have in BoB yet and we won't know about the next guy 1.5 years in unless we go after a retread like the Titans, Bucs, Raiders, and Lions did.
If half of the teams in NFL (who by definition have a below average QB) used this shaky logic, half of the NFL GMs and HCs would get fired every year.
A lot of them do. Look at teams that are searching for a franchise QB, and then take a look at their coaching carousel. You're not going to find a lot of stability. BOB/Smith has thoroughly and completely clusterf**ked this situation.
Yeah, exactly - fans should spend a few minutes perusing Patriot drafts... they've gotten better recently - but there was a long stretch of just abject ****. Same for the Colts during Manning's heyday (or now, during Luck's era).
The one saving grace to Belichick's GMing is his willingness to cut ties with vets before they get overpaid and begin to suck, and his ability to find replacements for said vets.
Yep, exactly. And he's much more likely to trade down and amass picks. Im shocked Bob has done the exact opposite
All that would backfire if he didn't have Tom Brady. He makes the whole team look good. That secondary is pretty bad but because teams are playing from behind they have better chances to make plays. Blount couldn't last anywhere else. They traded one of their best OLinemen for a TE that isn't with the team one year later. What would that team look like without Brady and Gronk?
I'm curious as to examples of this part. Meaning, is he truly finding unknown gems, or does it just work in their system (which, to them, doesn't matter, but if judging relative to other people, does). I mean not that there'd be a great way to gauge this after the fact... but if a lot more of this was happening on the offensive side of the ball, I think it'd bemore attributable to system... but whatever. These super long threads are useless. Everyone knows Rick Smith has done a below average job. Everyone knows B'ob has done an average job at best. In a world without cronyism, Smith would be let go, and B'ob would be treading water.
I'd say average. Most on here think below. NFL.com, yahoo, etc. think higher. Either way, his job title says manager and so much has been mismanaged at this point.
Not for nothing but for three years, the Patriots were a Pollard hit to Brady's knee away from turning the keys to their franchise over to, yep: Ryan Mallett. I'm not bagging Belicheck but having one of the 2-3 greatest QBs who ever lived makes*everything* easier.
