imagine today's players range and old school hard moving picks. Stars will still thrive, but there will be a place for bruisers like Oakley to open things up for them.

Oakley wouldn't have a role. He'd be useless on offense

The video isn’t particularly coherent. 15 minutes of bad calls in the 90’s doesn’t support that the entire league was tougher back then. What if you cherry picked only rough fouls?

The entire reason things were rougher then was because hand checking was legal. The video is addressing an imaginary argument that nobody actually believes.

Actually IIRC Oakley had a pretty reliable midrange jumper when left open. He'd be able to play pick n pop with Harden.

I think you're being sarcastic but not entirely sure. You'd rather have a 40% mid-range shot in today's NBA? Morey would turnover in his grave.

Watch old games then from start to finish and count how many times you see handchecking on the ball handler, and then look at a Rockets game and check how many times you see it as well and compare, then come back and tell us the difference. I think you'll be surprised.

The idea that there is no hand checking in today's NBA is one of the biggest myths there is.

Not being sarcastic. I didn't check his stats. Just from memory at least during his prime years, I seem to remember him always hit the open midrange shot.

That's funny because I always thought he was a clanker. But it's rare that you see a player shoot 15' + jumpers at higher than 40%.

Back then ejections for hard fouls weren’t as automatic as they are now but base level contact is similar. Less contact is allowed on the perimeter now but you can maul post players more now. Watch some old 80s regular season games. Those dudes barely played defense until late in the 4th and in the playoffs. Defensive schemes and engagement are so much higher now (if not always effective). So much money is at stake now. Winning is monetized in a way never before.
