These are plays that are supposed to work in theory if we ran them or have worked in action multiple times. 1. Dwight Howard- James Harden pick and roll 2. Dwight Howard- Jeremy Lin pick and roll 3. Dwight Howard postup and kickout to Jeremy Lin or James Harden for the three ball when double teamed 4. Fast break in transition for James Harden or Jeremy Lin layup or kick out to Beverley/Garcia/Casspi These are the plays Kevin McHale continues to run despite limited success. 1. James Harden isolation jump shot or pass off with a few seconds on shot clock 2. Dwight Howard post up with no consideration for kick out or a re-entry pass 3. Chandler Parsons top of the key with no pick to let him drive to the basket, instead pump fake and a poor drive to the basket It is mind numbing that the coach won't run the pick and roll for Dwight and instead chooses to let him go solo on post up plays ineffectively. Think about players like Tim Duncan or Shaquille O'Neal that also command double teams. Thy always had Bruce Bowen or Derek Fisher giving the entry pass, ready to accept the pass back to sink the J. This team is surrounded by competent shooters (and today J Lin proved he is a welcome addition to this arsenal) as well as a big man that commands double teams. We leverage NONE of these things. It's painful to watch.
The one complaint I have when they do give Lin the ball, it always seems spontaneous and not properly setup... the infamous example being when Harden was just walking to the other side of the floor with no sense of urgency(regardless of whether he was following the play or not)... today I noticed one play in particular where he got the ball, but the spacing was absolutely terrible and he got tripled teamed at the top of the arc... that should not be happening when you have shooters on your team. Also, honorable mention has to be given to JLin - Greg Smith pick and roll. I don't know the statistics but that play should definitely have a high success rate (small sample size)
