We have the 4th best record in the league which is the only statistic that counts right now.

Pretty horrible basketball play all together for a team that's 3rd in the west. If they could only shoot pass and play any d at all we could maybe win a game or 2

Actually AST/TO ratio is the biggest statistical difference with GSW (after NetRtg). So add turnovers to the equation.

    It's like this:
    GSW/HOU assist ratio=1.21
    HOU/GSW turnover ration=1.14

Turnovers are nearly as big of a difference as assists, between us and GSW. The ATL numbers are similar.

This. The Warriors and Hawks are #1 and #2 in 3pt FG% the Rockets are middle of the pack.

The Rockets are also at the bottom in FTs while GS is near the top if I recall.

Look where McHale teams rank historically in turnovers. He's one of the worst. Ever. You have to acquire an elite distributing point guard just to mask it. And when you do you're stopping the ball which is somewhat counterproductive in itself.

crazy how times have changed, went from hero ball with jordan-kobe to now you need the scoring point guards and midrange shooting big men with teammates who can shoot threes at 40% or higher.. team ball now is so much more important than back in the day, and somehow we still have mchale coaching us..

    This.

There is no doubt that a point guard like Lawson or Dragic would help, but also lets not overlook that the Warriors have 3 of the top 8 three point shooters in the NBA, and the Hawks have Carroll and Korver putting up bucket loads of 3's and hitting nearly half of them.

I disagree with that, the team you described has won a single title recently - Spurs. It was the Heat doing it before that with attacking, ball dominant wings. The Grizzlies win it all (very possible) and then where are we?

Yet the Rockets have the 4th best record in the NBA, with an easy schedule left and have been without their best defender and post player for most the season.... man that McHale, he sure is lucky...

I agree. McHale absolutely sucks as a coach and he has zero offensive system in place. He really is just a muppet there being paid to utter the words "play harder guys" "clap clap"

    Volume counts.

You go to the warehouse to buy 1000 pieces of goods, you will get a discount than buying 1 piece.

    This.

The Rockets also draw a lot more fouls which lowers assists.

We need better shooters. We don't have a Korver or Thompson/Curry on our roster.

Golden state also ranks 26th in Free Throw Rate.

Conclusion - Steve Kerr is an idiot who is leaving easy points on the table and his players are all low IQ morons.

dafuq is an ast/to ratio anyway? I think it should be stl/to ratio. Makes sense to me! :p

    [edit]

on that note, Harden ranks 47th with a STL/TO ratio of 0.48
    Ariza is 11th with 1.12
    Brewer 19th/0.93
    Smith 53rd/0.44

Curry is 30th with a ratio of 0.68

Tony Allen and Kawhi Leonard lead the league with 1.49 and 1.46, respectively.

    [/edit]

Dwight on the court seems to lead to more turnovers. 4th best record, yeeeeeeehaw, let's crown each other, yayyyyyyy. I guess I cant make an assessment of a weakness. God forbid...

4 best record in the league. Bro, I'm trying to a championship here. Take your 4th best record shirt to Buffalo Wild Wings.

Yet...... the Rockets have the 4th best record in the NBA without their second best player for most of the season.... I guess that "clap clap" stuff must be magic.

Yeah, but a LOT of those fouls (mainly ones drawn by the league leader in FTA) are off of plays that would not have earned an assist anyways.

It'd be a valid point if the Rockets were moving the ball and got it to a guy that was fouled just before he could score an assisted bucket, but if the fouls (and resulting free-throw attempts) come off of isolation plays, then using FTA as an excuse for lower assist totals/averages doesn't make much sense.
