In the modern era, the 2008 Celtics are considered to have started the "Superteam" era by joining three HoFer together. In 2010, Miami took it to another level with joining LeBron, Bosh with Wade. And of course we have Durant joining the Warriors in 2016.

But in past, most teams have used the traditional "superstar duo with great role players" model. Think Malone and Stockton, Shaq and Kobe, Shaq and Wade, etc.

One thing that the Rockets proved this year is that the superstar duo model still works. Rockets won 65 games and took the Warriors to 7 games in the WCF with the Harden/Paul duo joining great role players.

I think that Rockets success means that the superteam era is over. GMs and especially owners will be thinking, why do I need to form and pay for a superteam? 2017-18 Rockets prove that it isn't necessary!

Clint and Gordon shared the 3rd star status......in the playoffs. Clint not so much against GSW overall but against everyone else.

In the regular season both of them could be viewed as close to being a star.

    It is still necessary.

What makes a super team? To me it's at least 3 All Stars and two of them are in the MVP discussion.

I think Lebron is the guy who can overshadow anyone, put Wade and Bosh in the Non MVP discussion/ no discussion.

Technically I think we qualified as a superteam this year.
We had three guys making over 20mil a year.
    Ryno just sucked.

The Rockets had a super team in 1997, with Hakeem, Barkley, and Drexler.

If your goal is to beat the Warriors then going either route would be equally as difficult IMO.

What about the 80s Celtics and the Lakers. They were full of Hall of Farmers, or the lakers with west, wilt, and baylor. etc. There have been super teams forever.

Rockets were often a team of extremes..... Either outscore anyone in the previous seasons or outdefend everyone and lay the most bricks in playoff history.

He also forgot these feeble attempts at building super teams.

Remember just cause you build one... the championships may still not come.

Father time is undefeated, 33 is a lot different than 28-30.

If that's the case then you could say the same thing about CP3 at 33, and possibly adding LBJ at 33

Ok. I would've agreed, if it were just Shaq and Kobe from the 1999-03, but Malone and Payton signed with the Lakers as free agents, while still being fairly noticeable all-stars.

I would consider the late Pistons 2004 as a Super team on Defense. Folks are not mentioning that enough.

They were holding teams under 80......

Having two future hall of famers on your team is pretty super.
