So this is the time in our nation's history when one party decided democracy no longer mattered. Not every Republican believes that the 2020 election was stolen, but those that don't won't stand up against the many in their party that do. Even Republicans who accept the facts that 2020 election was decided fairly, are okay supporting and pulling for the Republican candidates who say they won't accept any results if they lose. Instead those Republicans run around saying that Democrats are making too big of a deal talking about preserving our Democracy. More than 200 Republican candidates are election deniers. That's more than half of all the Republican candidates. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/10/06/elections-deniers-midterm-elections-2022/ If there was ever a bigger example that Republicans place party over country, I haven't seen it. The Republican party punishes those that stand for Democracy. The move is clear. It is anti-democracy, and folks don't care.
Capitalism and Democracy go perfectly together. Capitalism is about opportunity. Everything has flaws and Capitalism is limited when some become so big they limit opportunity but your post couldn't be more. Communism depends on a government making decisions where people belong and what they deserve
Election deniers are about the end of Democracy in the United States. Things have changed since this thread started.
Election deniers are about a specific election. They aren't denying Democracy, they are denying vote counts. The thread isn't about vote counts, it's about people's beliefs in Democracy
Democracy is about counting votes. That is pretty much the definition of democracy. Candidates have said they won't accept vote counts (AKA democracy) in this election unless they win.
But the thread topic which was before the 2020 election isn't about counting votes. There are plenty threads to talk about that subject
You aren't the thread police. The thread is about democracy. Democracy is all about counting votes. I'm on topic.
So you basically admit I'm correct. It's a good topic no need to distract it to continue to talk about a well covered topic.
Counting votes is the topic. If you agree that is what Democracy is, then we agree. The post that I made is about democracy and the current biggest threat to it in our country. It is on topic. I'll continue to talk about it.
You apparently don't understand how discussions happen or the topic of this thread. I can't help you with that. It's something you'll have to work out for yourself.
"Not counting votes" is a mechanism for ending democracy. The people are more concerned with inflation (although Republicans have no solution - but that doesn't matter) than democracy (attacks on voting rights, rules of law, etc) reflect what the professor said - "Democracy is hard work. And as society’s “elites”—experts and public figures who help those around them navigate the heavy responsibilities that come with self-rule—have increasingly been sidelined, citizens have proved ill equipped cognitively and emotionally to run a well-functioning democracy. As a consequence, the center has collapsed and millions of frustrated and angst-filled voters have turned in desperation to right-wing populists." “In sum, the majority of Americans are generally unable to understand or value democratic culture, institutions, practices or citizenship in the manner required,” Rosenberg has concluded. “To the degree to which they are required to do so, they will interpret what is demanded of them in distorting and inadequate ways. As a result they will interact and communicate in ways that undermine the functioning of democratic institutions and the meaning of democratic practices and values.”
This about lack of participation. I apologize for another stupid argument with Franciseblade but it is a substantial difference between people like election deniers and people who are lethargic about Democracy
I'm saying that the dangers to Democracy are from very different sources and they shouldn't be confused
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/kill-them-arizona-election-workers-face-midterm-threats-2022-11-06/ 'Kill them': Arizona election workers face midterm threats More than 100 threats to election workers in just one county in Arizona. Truly our democracy is in danger and people of one party either support it or don't care about it. I mean this is the time when people can show they do care and democracy is important or they can show a disregard for our democracy.
