Such a skewed way of putting it.

    5 years, 118 million
    or
    4 years, 88 million

That's a 23.6 mil per year vs. 22 mil per year. If he chooses a team like Houston, his take home pay per year is probably close if not a little bit more.

If I was him, I go to Houston do a 4-year deal with the 4th year being a player option, exercise it, and get a long-term 5 year deal at max money.

    Secondly his options are;

    1) Los Angeles
    2) Houston
    3) Dallas
    4) Atlanta

Not Brooklyn, Los Angeles cannot partake in a sign and trade with him. Period. It's illegal.

This would be pretty funny- demand d'antoni be fired, then leave anyway. Again.

Nash will convince him to stay

Lets not forget the Magic tried to acquire Nash numerous times because Dwight wanted him. He respects Nash

Nash can't play anymore. He's old and always injured. Howard has no use for him anymore. Come to houston, Dwight...

Dwight is now familiar with Steve DNP Nash. He's not the same and Father Time is showing Dwight that if he stays in the geriatric unit that are the Lakers he will rot there.

Because most logical thinkers understand that the odds of a 31-year-old Dwight not getting a max contract in the summer of 2017 are roughly 0.00002%.

obviously that didnt hinder the team from going 28-12 after right? As long as they make it work on the court I dont care

Logical people do not turn down $30 million guaranteed.

There's nothing guaranteed about Dwight getting a max contract in 2017. Freak accidents? He will be 31 with a game that will age HORRIBLY (opposite of Bosh who's game will age gracefully). Everything will have to go extremely well for Dwight, no major injuries, and drastic improvements in his game (that we haven't seen in the past 4 years). I would say its 50/50 he will not get a max contract at age 31, not 0.00002%. lol

Disagree. His game is based on his physique and brute strength, attributes that well age well. Even this year, with a recovery from back surgery that zapped his "athleticism" until March or so, he was clearly the best center in the league and a max-level player. He's an incredible rebounder and shot blocker who anchors a defense, in a league almost devoid of them.

He doesn't need to improve at all. As long as he doesn't regress significantly, he's going to be getting max deals until he's at least 33 or 34. Possibly longer. Same reason LeBron didn't need the extra year to commit to Miami. (Yes, he ended up getting it later, but he didn't know when he committed, and he still took at least $15 mil under the max.) When you're a global icon and clear top 5 player your entire career, the odds of you not getting a max deal at 31 are ridiculously low. Not worth worrying about.

So much of your post is reaching.

His game is based on his athleticism. His strength is on par with other strong centers in the NBA ala Roy Hibbert, Pekovic, Ben Wallace, etc. What sets his apart is his jumping ability and athleticism.

Not so clearly the best center of the league this season after the injury. Did I mention injury? Maybe he'll take the 30 million guaranteed after all.

His athleticism WILL regress before he's 33. Therefore his game will regress as well. One more reason he is not a lock for MAX DEAL at age 31.

Once again, not a CLEAR top 5 player throughout his career. Right now it is debatable if he's even top 10.

First off, Ben Wallace is retired. Second, Dwight didn't have his jumping ability and athleticism this year, and he STILL was the best center in the league. Hibbert has never even broken 50% from the field and the most rebounds per game he's ever averaged is 8.8. Pekovic isn't a shot blocker at all (below 1 per game his whole career).

Dwight, in his worst year due to recovery from back surgery, was an elite rebounder (12.4) AND shotblocker (2.4) and also an efficient finisher on offense (57.8%).

Dwight was HANDS DOWN the best center in the league this year, even though he wasn't close to 100% until March or later. That's how good he is. The guys you mentioned -- the Hibbert, Pekovic, Ben Wallace (when he played) tier? They're all good and deservedly got or will get near-max deals. And Howard is head and shoulders above them, even this year. The idea that Howard is anywhere remotely close to falling below max level, particularly given his size and position, is ridiculous.

It ain't working on the court with that group. Anybody that is willing to sign up for part two of that is a fool. Unless major changes are made the Lakers are in for another disappointment of a season.

    We tried that, Grizzlies matched.

I think Dwight will be best case scenario for Houston next year in free agency, sadly.

If he leaves then everyone thinks he's a quitter...again...and leaving on a sour note...again.

The only way to salvage his image is to re-up with the Lakers without drawing any attention and busting his ass in the offseason.

He *could* just leave and sign with Houston, but then again it'd have to be done low key and quickly. The longer he drags out his free agency, the more his image will erode. Everyone was sick of him by July last year.

I don't get why everyone tries to defend Asik as if it's a knock on him that we want dwight who's the best center in the league. I love Asik's game and I hate dwight more than any player in the league but all this stuff about heart, drive etc. means nothing if D12 is still the better player. I'm sure theres a 12th man in the league who works hard as hell but that doesn't mean he's seeing the court.

Right now we have no post option. Everything Asik does dwight can do better. With all of our shooters having someone to dump the ball to in the post will do wonders and it will take the pressure off of James. Plus he can teach this team a thing or two about defense, and we need ALL the help we can get

Getting DH12 doesnt give them a legit post option either. They arent going to throw him the ball on the low block and tell him to go to work like Hakeem , Shaq , Robinson .... or even ZBo.

    .

I dont disagree with this - I actually stated in two previous posts.

    .

No it wont do wonders for this offense because DH12 has an ineffective post game offensively.
Add to that the fact that you can just foul the guy and .... He'll shoot ~50% from the line , that doesnt translate to putting points on the board.

Yep , a guy who flat out quit on his team is going to teach these guy's a thing or two Kevin McHale cant about playing defense .....

Howard is a better version of Asik. No denying that .... Just not so sure he's "that much better" or worth the $11m extra he would cost that could be spent elsewhere.
