A sign of a great player is when you still can dominate when your shot is off. James Harden is an all-star (and a superstar when his shots on). Bu a true superstar is Lebron/KD/Westbrook type of player. They don't let their offense dictates how they play the rest of their games.
Also, Harden is one the worst superstars I've ever seen when his shot isn't falling. Other stars at least give you hustle, start to set up their teammates, rebound their asses of when their shot isn't falling. Harden completely kills the team on his off-nights and doesn't provide anything, even a sub-mediocre rotational player provides more for a team in those games. It's extremely brutal to watch how his game only works when his offense is working, otherwise he's abysmal in every category during these slumps, it hurts the team extremely. I really struggle to consider him a superstar or one of the greats, he's an offensive juggernaught when on his a-game, but that's what his game relies on 100%.You can't be a great basketball player and only be useful when your shot is falling, none of the other stars rely on their shot falling this much, they always provide other things in case they have an off-night. I think a team with Harden as its leader will never win the ring, unless it has GSW depth and doesn't rely on him scoring 20+ each night. Making him your team's franchise player completely puts your fate in his hands and shooting streaks, you're creating a strategy and team that completely relies on an extremely flawed player that is an absolute cancer to the performance when things don't go his way.
Hold on now, don't drop a truth hammer like that on some of these posters! Common sense just isn't up their alley.
Well throw Dwight in there too. Playing only one game of a back to back like "Toronto game"-era tmac, then cue the knee surgery fiasco for both. Both from Orlando Magic headed in the same ring less direction unlike Shaquille, one he left Orlando.

Again...I say this while wearing my MVB shirt....you are absolutely right. The character and attitude has to be there.
I have an eerie feeling his teammates have deserted him. This is the feel of a team that doesn't like playing with each other. Like, you made your bed, lie in it. Probably because McHale wouldn't hold him accountable. First three games, his shot was missing, and McHale said there's nothing wrong with James; it's the rest of the team.
I keep telling people James Harden is not a superstar player. Compared to now he was the better player when he played in Oklahoma coming off the bench. The guy is very inconsistent on offense and defense like a role player and if his three ball is not falling the only way he can score is intentionally running into the defenders looking for fouls. His game is ugly to watch and his skill level does not compare to that of Stephon curry LeBron James or Russell Westbrook
Well, McGrady fans would always take McGrady over anyone who's actually taken a team to Western Conference Finals. They just make excuses and those excuses somehow make him even with James Harden's accomplishments.

That year was 02-03 when Orlando got eliminated in the first round. McGrady was 7th in the 04-05 season with the Rockets.
At the beginning of last season, Harden had just come from playing team USA ball with and against Curry everyday. But even more important is the fact the he was being coached by Coach K everyday. In Team USA ball Harden held his own actually competing against the rest of the NBA's best and working on his basketball skills. This year there's been NO extra bball in the off season, and(as much as I do like Mchale as a person) NO Coach K to push the right buttons.
I know that McGrady never had the season Harden did last year, even in his prime. #2 in mvp voting and conference finals
Harden is a weak minded individual who likely came into camp destracted, unprepared, and not in top shape. But he hasn't lost me yet. Redemption stories are often the best ones.
you get paid millions; that's not enough motivation. he's lazy. i wouldn't want to play on team with harden. i have to bust my ass on defense and get no play call for me while this lazy ass just stand and stare at the ball.
