I've said this before, but I liken Mark Sanchez's progress thus far as something David Carr "could" have been capable of had he gone to an established team. Sanchez wasn't expected to start right away, but he had a solid O-line, an aggressive/opportunistic defense that could create easy scoring chances for the offense, and had a decent sense of maturity (which some have questioned, still). All that being said, Sanchez is not all that impressive, and is likely reason # 6 why the Jets are playing in the AFC conference championship for the second time in as many years (1.) Overall defense, 2.) Rex Ryan, 3.) Individual defense - Revis, 4.) Special teams - Cromartie, Folk, and 5.) Recievers - Holmes/Edwards). He may get better with more time/experience.... and he's definitely getting exposed to the highest of pressure situations at such a young age... but I could have totally seen him faltering even WORSE than Carr had he been put behind that awful O-line on an expansion team as a rookie.
Carr used to say that he used to take the videos/DVDs home to study. I think that's a big mistake for a QB, much less a young QB. You need to watch the tape with your team so everyone is on the same page in terms of what they're seeing/reading on the film. I also went to see Carr play during his senior year (against SMU). Oddly enough, he had a terrible first half and got pulled. We chanted "over-rated" while he was on the sideline.... a few short months later, he was the number one pick.
