2015 Fortune 500 companies per state... 55 - New York 54 - Texas 53 - California 15 - Florida California is well represented with teams. NY has much fewer relative to population, but how many franchises can be squeezed into one metropolis? I'll just hope the majority of Central Texas is pissed come Monday.
Are you sure? Seems NFL expansion is the only thing stopping it. The Alamodome was built based on a city-vote and hopes for NFL. The citizens definitely wanted a team.. the league just didn't expand until 5 years later. If Jerry truly is stopping it, shame on him for making the state less than what it should be. And shame on Les for depriving Houston of an additional sport. Texas should have more teams. Central Texas should have MLB too.
The folks that still cheer for the Tacks need to move to Tennessee, they are an aggravating bunch. Spoiler
Exactly. I could've used harsher words than "weird"....... but I refrained. HOUers who cheer for the Titans are basically saying, "the Oilers are BIGGER than Houston"............... Playa, please. But... the H-H rivalry is nice overall. When it happens, there's something extra regardless of standings. Remember the MNF matchup @HOU a few years ago with all the extra-curricular? TEN had nothing to play for except spoiler. Texans finished weak by missing a long FG when we could've been more aggressive. Texans-Titans is unlike any rivalry in the country I can think of....... it.originated West of the Mississippi then went East of it.
yall are insane!! losing your hometown team sucks. i feel for the fans. i would never wish that on anybody (except fans of the following: cowboys, lakers, jazz, mavericks, titans, patriots and warriors)! Even as bad as the texans have been, i couldn't imagine losing them and going without football. We are lucky to get another team, but I don't see SD getting another NFL team. and no true Charger fan will ever root for the LA Chargers. that would be worst than somebody from Houston cheering for a Tennessee team.
The Texans and Cowboys would block expansion or relocation to San Antonio. Plus, San Antonio's problem is the lack of the Corporate base needed to buy those Suites. More teams in the state divides the entertainment dollar. LA teams will have problems getting the interest will so much competition. UT doesn't want competition from the NFL. Spurs don't want competition from the NFL. Rangers and Astros have built fanbases in Central Texas thru minor leagues....they dont want another MLB team in Texas.
I'm not so sure that's the case anymore. Just off the top of my head you have HEB, Tesoro, Clear Channel, Cullen/Frost Bank, Valero, Holt Caterpillar (though not sure how much Peter Holt would support the competition), SWBC, USAA, plus Toyota has a huge manufacturing presence there. Your first point is correct: the only massive obstacle would be pushback from the MLB/NFL teams in Dallas & Houston, that and they'd have to publicly finance a stadium.
They should fully go out and build another Alamodome. It sure worked the first time.... if you build it, they will come!
San Antonio would've been perfect for the Chargers. The NFLs obsession with LA is mind boggling. Especially now. You're suffering ratings problems and you move two teams to one of the worst football cities in the country? Gonna be fun seeing that enormous stadium empty every week.
The ratings "problem" is overblown. The NFL still dominated all sports in ratings... and they got significantly better as the year went on (i.e. - after the election). And being in the LA market helps a helluva lot more with viewership than being in the San Antonio market.
Okay.... I can respect respectful responses. I still think SA-AUS would LOVE their own team......Damn the Cows. The Alamodome doesn't exist because majority of Central Texas didn't want their own team. Big LOL to anyone who suggests otherwise. Texas deserves more teams. We all know this. If DAL and HOU are weakening AUS-SA for whatever reason, that's F***ed up. Cali doesn't suffer from 3rd/4th largest cities having franchises.
