This sounds like the intro to

The Year of The Yao II:
The real year of the yao.

Can you imagine the drama...if we win the championship i can see this happening

This is so true, Van Gundier, as the best selling NBA jerseys in China are those of Nash, Nowitzki, and White Chocolate, rather than Kobe, AI, and TMac.

Well...the story could be longer. I for one wanna hear more about the JVG/Mobley/Francis locker room dialogue. Wouldn't you liked to have been a fly on the wall after Francis went to the Superbowl instead of showing up.

Then Jeff Van Gundy benched him for 4 consecutive games with the reason that he had a sprained left buttock

That made me spray spit all over my keyboard. Damn you pryuen! An entertaining read nonetheless :D

    Thanks for the translation.

I like reading these Chinese articles. I think they're definitely written from a certain point of view (either Yao's or that of a YOF) but there's definitely at least a kernel of truth to this. It's sad to think that Steve really might have thought he could get rid of Van Gundy when it's obvious that Van Gundy was hired almost specifically to control Steve Francis. It was thought at the time that a strict coach was needed to get him in line and have him play in a real system rather than "freelance." Fact is, I think Steve tried and Van Gundy tried, but Francis just wasn't the guy to get the Rockets to the next level. Under Van Gundy or anybody.

That second season must have been as strange for Yao as the first one was. His first experience seeing guys traded, a new coach, a new order... Must have been bewildering. It wasn't until TMac came in that Yao really got his footing under him in the NBA.

It's nice that Yao and Francis have such a good relationship. Fact is, thought, that TMac runs this team. As long as that dynamic stays intact, I'm glad to have Francis aboard. I hope Adelman can figure out how to use him effectively.

There is racial bias against everybody from any group. China is less PC than America but I wouldn't call it racism.

Thanks for the translation. Quite interesting; and I remember that that incident with Larry Smith was reported back then and I remember the drop in performance of Yao Ming compared to having Rudy T as the coach; I alluded to it in another thread.

Chinese who stay in US most time "shy" away from approaching black people from a self-protecting point of view. In China, all foreigners are treated the same regardless of their country/race.

But they have no problem crowding around you in the rural areas. Touch a foreigner's blonde hair to see if it's real. And follow you around. They don't do this in the cities anymore but when China first opened up, they sure did.
