For those of you with satellite radio, Shade 45 and xL Backspin are going in on these Beastie Boys tracks. I just listened for about half an hour, then I had to get back to work, but it's almost nonstop music (occasional caller giving their Beastie Boys memories/stories).
Horribly depressing news. I remember months of anticipation waiting for License to Ill to be released. The Beasties had an incalculable influence on me. Sadness.
Ugggh! I put it on Backspin just now and they're playing MC Hammer "Turn this mothu out"! Now this stupid crap will be in my head all night!
licensed to ill, first cassette tape i bought with my own money after cutting some lawns. at the time nobody was cooler than those guys in the fight for your right video.

I never was too into the group, but I really admired his work regarding Tibet. Sad to see talented and passionate people pass away young.
(intentional play on words) That was a BEAST of an album. They went for critical acclaim afterward. Yauch got maybe too apologetic for their early "immature" themes later on. Yeah mid 40's rappers can't pull of "Fight for Your Right to Party" too seriously. But unmistakable was its effect on youth culture
The Beastie Boys were so bad ass. Watch this concert. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xJYfOGb3sKw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
He was the best Beastie and most legit rapper, in my opinion. Damn shame that all of his hard partying and cancer caught up with him and get him at such a depressingly young age. His work with the Beastie Boys forever changed New York/Def jam records/rap. They took it to a whole new level, and were an influence to many rappers, regardless of color or race. RIP MCA
They're still among my favorite rap acts and Licensed To Ill is still probably in the top 5 cassettes/CD's/albums I've ever listened to. I'm gonna be cranking this on my drive to Houston later. I still remember us standing around singing "Paul Revere" and blowing out our crappy 6x9's to this album (and ok, Nemesis' "Last Night").
