Yeah, roslolian listed some good examples. But even some star caliber players can be effective without the ball. The best instances of this are guys like Reggie Miller, Ray Allen and Rip Hamilton. Guys who can play off the ball, utilize screens to get open, then catch and shoot. Kevin Martin may be that kind of player for the Rockets, although he is also going to be featured at times taking his man off the dribble and drawing fouls, likely at the start of quarters in order to get the Rockets in the bonus early.

roslolian, I think that Team USA has come around to this conclusion in recent years. Hence, the inclusion of guys like Shane Battier and Tayshawn Prince on the last two national teams. Also, it is telling that a guy like JaVale McGee was the last cut on Team USA this year. He was clearly brought into training camp as a role player and almost made that team ahead of much bigger names.

Exactly. Huge difference between recruiting players and bullying management into getting who you want.

another myth. it was reported around the deadline that lebron james wanted amare stoudamire, another all-star.

ferry instead got jamison b/c he wanted a PF who can spread the floor, and thus he traded for jamison.

this is a deal for a possible borderline superstar (and we all heard those rumors swirling at the deadline) and yet if james was such a bully, you'd think the cavs would have gotten him.

again, it just seems SO CONVENIENT that all these articles pop up after "the decision."

but i know a lot on this board likes to go with speculation and then make up their own damn minds and then talk like it's the real stuff

you guys would be great for the tabloids

GMs interact with ferry, a cavs' GM?

and a cavs insider knows more than some random speculators?

just like how other GMs respect morey b/c they interact with him and we don't. and we trust clutchfans insider right?

so since we don't follow the cavs much except for articles like these, i'd take their word for it

Don't you think the Cavs tried but were rejected? They settled for Jamison but did try for Amare.

the suns were looking to trade for amare b/c they all expected what went down this summer--he would leave and they get nothing. all the "public" talks from talking heads like ESPN and NBATV said they were close.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-cavswizards021610

from woj. read the article. some in cavs' management prefers the jamison deal b/c they do not want to give up hickson, which they most likely would have for amare.

and in video interview post jamison trade, ferry stated that the reason he wanted jamison so bad alongside lebron was b/c of his jumpshooting capabilities, which he thought amare lacked.

    and check this out:

Despite LeBron James’ desire for Stoudemire, sources say some within the Cavs aren’t completely sold that acquiring the Phoenix Suns All-Star forward is the best move at the trade deadline. The front office and coaching staffs have to walk delicately when dealing with James on these trade scenarios, because ultimately he has to buy into the move they make.

James’ desire to play with Stoudemire has been a major reason why the Cavaliers and Suns are so deep in negotiations. James has told Cavs management he can make things work among Stoudemire, Shaquille O’Neal(notes) and himself. Ultimately, that task will fall upon him far more than coach Mike Brown.

this is from woj, who's damn reliable in terms of reporting (and when he's not writing editorial pieces"

so please, lebron completely controlling what the cavs did personnel-wise was a total myth. ferry made all those moves, and he probably asked lebron how he felt (like most GMs do with their franchise player) but in the biggest deal of his GM career (possibly trading for an all-nba player), he did otherwise, showing us ferry actually did have a lot of say.

so again, let's go on to the next lebron myth/speculation

    Good god.

LeBron alone carried the Cavaliers to the playoffs.
Wade alone carried the Heat to a finals and won it.
Bosh alone carried his Raps to a few playoff appearances.

I don't know whether it is jealously or pure hatred. But it's funny how every time a new LeBron story pops up without evidence, you guys love to hop on that ****.

Please stop. In the end it all comes down to the game of basketball on the court. Let's wait to see how they do first. If they fail, you can all reprimand the trio then...

I also fail to see why you are all criticizing the Heat for doing what we all dream about doing.

    BUILDING A DYNASTY.

I don't know about you but I would love a Yao - LeBron - Paul trio here in Houston.

I also fail to see why you are all directing your hatred towards Wade and Bosh. Wade stayed and LeBron and Bosh followed. I don't see what else he could have done... Bosh of course joined the Heat in free agency, nothing wrong with that move.

LeBron dun goofed up and publicized his decision and now consequences will never be the same, in form of undying hatred towards him and new "rumours" popping up that coincidentally started happening right after the decision... hmmm.

But seriously. You knew this was coming... LeBron has a big enough ego to pull it off, now that his ego is actually catapulting him into a championship you all choose to complain?

    SUCK IT UP.

Let the teams do the talking, and we can do the watching...

and i talked about that. EVERY front office discuss moves with their best players. this was no different.

eventually, ferry made a move that he felt best for the cavs, and that wasn't lebron's first choice.

again, this was for an all-nba player, not a mo will or old shaq. the myth was lebron could do whatever he wanted and the cavs would bow down to him. in possibly the biggest player signing, they didn't, which debunked the myth that he CONTROLLED whatever was going on.

judging from lebron's actions this summer, he wants to play with another superstar.

amare is at least an offensive superstar. jamison is potentially an all-star (or was) but nowhere near a superstar.

For all those hoping and waiting for the Heat to fail, you are about to have a miserable decade of NBA basketball.

its kind of sad, that bosh is going to get stabbed in the back, seriously, its sad to see what joke the nba has become just for lebron to be happy. backstabbing people, make him feel welcome just to let him know he is just trade bait....smh.....

but. since they want to do a trade, how about a 3 team trade involving us?
    Get'r done morey?

Bosh is an all-star, Kerr was role player. A better comparison is bosh being like Rodman(3rd best player on the team)

He's making **** up. LeBron has only contacted two players: Ariza & Artest for their services, and the reason not even one went was because of a long-term of commitment.

LeBron has liked his teammates, or thought some were good, but never pushed for those(those being Gibson & Hickson). Infact, he just practiced and hung out with them throughout the year + off-season. They came to Cleveland first(like Hughes and Big Z), and LeBron liked them, not the other way around.
