I won't respect his honesty in his language about hispanic immigrants. The way he speaks brazenly about an infestation will actually augment and crystallize the xenophobic and racist attitudes in his base. Vague resentments are given a voice and an authenticity as some kind of policy position because the President has legitimized them with his plain-spoken villification of hispanic immigrants. But he hasn't just repeated the resentments that exist, he tells lies (Mexicans are rapists, MS-13 will infiltrate the country, everyday border crossers are human traffickers, Democrats want open borders, etc) that give such people evidences to feel justified in their positions. Whereas people may have once just resented illegal immigrants, he has expanded the scope of xenophobia to all immigrants, even legal ones, making people wary of policies we used to think were uncontroversial -- taking in refugees, allowing family-sponsored immigration (aka "chain migration"), even birthright citizenship. These are white supremacist ideas that he has brought to the mainstream. Then he takes enforcement actions and policy positions that are all out of proportion to the severity of the infraction (eg, criminal prosecutions on all border-crossers, separating children from parents, detaining and deporting victims of crimes and hospital patients for immigration violations so that no one will feel safe calling 911) and now his a significant portion of the population tossing their moral compass to the curb to pursue some white identity ideal they didn't previously know they even had. I don't think this is a case of talking frankly instead of tiptoeing around. He has significantly enlarged the white nationalist movement in its prominence and influence in a way I think few other Republicans would be willing to do by saying all the things people should be ashamed to say. Other Republicans might have made some dog whistles to snag a few votes from racists, but few would actually try to deliver on racist promises to please that voter demographic. What we don't need from our leadership is someone who will reinforce our resentments and give us people to hate. All this is why I think immoral is the term. Hate crimes are up. He is literally making the country more racist. Attitudes are more racist, acting on racism is up, the policy of our government is more racist.
People are up in arms about social issue voters. This really is at the moment their last stand. As critics like to point out it was an electoral college win. Reagan Democrats have a while. They really are the Midwest They rallied. Scoreboard We are all gonna die one day
