So so many things wrong here. 1. Howard coming here was not some forgone conclusion. We landed him because we chased him. Without a chase, we don't have Howard. So it is kind of ridiculous to say stop chasing free agents that won't come here, when literally nobody knows where a FA is going to land until it happens. 2. We didn't trade Asik for nothing. We traded him for a first round pick which landed us Dekker. Now Dekker could end up being a bust, but we haven't seen the kid play a game yet. If he ends up being just a good SF/PF back-up, it was certainly an excellent trade. Get rid of a disgruntled offensively challenged center for a young kid with a lot of potential seems like a decent deal to me. 3. Lesser GMs have not been fired for not bringing their respective teams a championship. There are plenty of GMs that make it 10+ years without ever winning a championship. It is such a difficult accomplishment, and it requires smart diligent moves while also getting lucky here and there. The only thing you can ask of a GM, is that he is consistently putting your team in a position to succeed. They have to worry about not only the present, but also the future. I know everyone wants to go "all in", but honestly how many times have we seen "all in" moves actually work (Nets anyone?)? As far as anyone can tell, Morey has put the Rockets franchise in a place where they are going to be extremely competitive for the foreseeable future. We all want a championship really badly, but getting rid of Morey is certainly NOT a step in the right direction in my humble opinion.
We have $22 mln center that can't play in the 4th quarter bcuz he can't make free throws. Which means when the clock reaches 2 minutes, we can't play him on the offensive because if he catches it, he get's fouled and makes maybe 1 of 2. Or we post him on the block and fakes left or right and goes opposite and misses, turns it over, or get fouled 72% of the time. There isn't a team out there that hasn't seen what the Spurs and GS have done to beat us. So while everyone is giving Morey mad credit for signing D12, kaboom black suits filled the room. $22 mln for player that will not help us in the 4th qtr.
Would you rather have no center like the Clippers? Also Spurs couldnt even reach the WCF and GSW beat everyone else so I dont even know what you're talking about. Of course everyone is gonna give Morey credit, only fools say signing Howard is a bad thing.
Answer a fool according to his folly, not according to his folly! Foolish is over valuing D12 with a $22 mln contract and not realizing his value in the 4th qtr is significantly diminished. He couldn't score over a 6'7" Draymond Green and what his freethrow % in the 4th qtr. Also, we only score 28% of the time we throw the ball into him. I'm just saying that we significantly overpaid for D12 at $22 mln per!!!
there's this other half of the floor. they call it defense. have you heard of this side of the floor? please respond. (just kidding don't respond.)
No one overvalued Dwight. He would have been paid the max NO MATTER WHERE HE WENT. Dwight, even when injured, is still a supremely athletic individual and top 3 center. GSW are the champions and a great defensive team. Green is a great defensive player. Don't sell them short in your effort to clown Dwight.
Except for the fact that he's a top 3-5 big man in the NBA and dominates defensively for you every game and dominates offensively just about every game. Gotta pay more for the best players in the game
It's amazing, the "OMG THE SKY IS FALLING" attitude among many posters whenever things don't seem to go the Rockets' way in free agency. Any bump in the road means the Morey-haters will be out in full force calling for his head. I think Morey is on the of the best GM's in the league and a credit to the organization. However, I don't think he's perfect, and I do think he can make mistakes. But it seems that he does have a game plan in place, as well as several back-up plans. Last summer he swung for the fences with Bosh and came up short. But rather than panic-signing that horrible Parsons contract just to keep him on the team and hinder us long-term, he let him go and went to his Plan B. And make no mistake - it took guts to do this. I believe he must have known that the sports media and his detractors would rake him over the coals with glee. However, he went on record that the plan didn't work and went about his business. Over the course of the season, he improved the team to a degree that it helped get us to the WCF. And to those who would dismiss the Harden trade, Dwight and/or Josh signing as luck - remember this: prep is king. Morey already had the pieces in place to make the deal or take advantage of the opportunity. As other posters have said, if you truly believe the Rockets would be better with him gone, you should take a hard look at yourself and ask yourself why you despise Daryl Morey so much that you ignore the good he's done in order to continually cherry-pick his failures and spin his moves to fit your agenda of disparagement. I can only theorize that many disagreed with him becoming GM or were irked by something he did in his tenure, pre-Harden. Therefore, those people would rather seek out any validation for their already-formed opinion of him, just so that they don't have to admit they could be wrong in any way about him. The praise showered on him by many here must add fuel to their frustrated fires. No one is perfect. But to not give Morey any credit for the job he's done means you really have the blinders on.
The team has Trevor Ariza and Corey Brewer at SF. It doesn't need Sam Dekker. It needed a PG in the Draft and it needs to re-sign Josh Smith!
Ive been saying that since last year. Morey wants Harden to be a pg. Save your breath. Rockets dont want a proven pg, they want a rookie euro they can mold their way.
I'm not a fan of Darryl Morey fan and he got a reprieve from last season with a Conference Finals appearance and an injury full season. There's no way the Rockets are a 2 seed if the Spurs and Thunder were healthy. The guys on our roster would fail miserably in a normal regular season/post season.
I almost have to admire your commitment to this schtick. I'm pretty sure every single one of your posts is complaining about Morey. It must kill you that we made the conference finals after all the doom and gloom you were predicting last year.
