i'm talking about his recurring habit of telling posters he doesn't agree with to stop posting, going back years here. he is not an admin. if he wants to debate or discuss something fine. whether you agree with FTW or not, at least he doesn't seek out conflict with people here or try to play admin.
A big problem I have with Morey is exactly this: he never comes out and says that he messed up when he has let a ton of guys slip through his fingers. Think about the players we could've had this year: - Ed Davis - Kyle Lowry / Isaiah Thomas - Kaman
I am getting so tired of this condemnation of Morey. Making an argument for players we "could have had" is such flawed logic. Just because there is a possibility for us to obtain a player does not mean we would have had them. Also, we "could have had" Bosh, Melo, Lebron, etc. etc. Even though we struck out on those, who would you rather be trying to get on your team? My list or yours?
What in the hell?? This team is 9-3, he's landed 2 superstars, and has worked tirelessly to develop a team around said stars. If you can't see why firing him would be absolutely stupid, then I don't know what to tell you. You seem to b**** about every aspect of this team all the time. Why even watch them? And NL ROCKET, name me ONE GM in ANY sport who comes out with a laundry list of players he SHOULD have signed?? It's like some of you have just started watching sports or something. So you listed a bunch of players that we either had no shot of getting, or tried to sign and missed out.....what about the players he DID get that are contributing?? Kostas? Jason Terry? Any credit from you for those??
Well I hope it is built at least one more time in my life. But it seems we keep changing the brick every year.
I think that people who want Morey to be fired should start by indicating who they realistically think we can get to replace him. Judged against an impossible standard of superhuman perfection, Morey is an abject failure. Judged against all the real world human mistakes and missed opportunities, Morey's warts look pretty damn good to me. There are others I'd be happy with in the job, too, but nobody I'd place light years ahead. The other thing I see is a whole bunch of consternation about short term concerns. Morey's obsession with a third star is clearly a move focused on the long view. If you can't think in those terms, you are playing checkers while he is playing chess. There are a ton of moves that could have made the Rockets better this year that I've seen people propose, that would simultaneously locked the Rockets in as a second tier team over the next few years. Think two or three moves ahead when you are proposing moves. There are a ton of blind alleys and cul-de-sacs that look like a way forward that wold leave the team locked into mediocrity. Focus on the route to the finish line, not a way to take a couple of steps forward. It's easier to add role players once you have the cornerstones, than it is the other way around. Rightly or wrongly, Morey believes he needs a third cornerstone before locking in the supporting cast.
In the end, this is the cold hard truth. Until this changes, the current regime of Maury, Le$, and McFail will continue to receive scrutiny and criticism.
This. Cause the number one goal is playoff success, not 54 wins and first round exits. This is why he needs to build a team now that he has two of the best at their position.
I'm extremely disappointed with the way Morey has handled the off season. Firing Mchale should have been one of the easiest decisions any GM has had to make in some time, yet he didn't. Getting a backup center after he traded Asik should have been top priority. Solid Role Players should have been next. He did a great job getting Dwight and Harden all that was next was to surround them with capable role players and he failed because he was going after big fish. We don't need a third superstar, we need solid veteran role players. Harden looks tired already 12 games into the season. I'm not saying he should be fired, but I'm disappointed. When you win as much as we won last year you don't need a third superstar you are already there, you just need a coach and to have every position fortified with veteran talent.
my problem isn't with the roster.. i just feel that mchale is so bad at squeezing every drip of talent out of his players. let's face it, morey is on a power trip and any respectable coach won't entertain his dumba$$ philosophy.
No, not really. Our fans are pretty r****ded. These posts are not made out of logic and objectivity, they are made on emotion, which pretty much automatically makes them stupid from the get go. Owners would fire their GMs on the spot to hire Morey, that is how good he is at his job.
In light of yet another first round exit, maybe it's time to look at a new philosophy. Your play style needs to benefit your best players, Harden is dreadful from 3 and sometimes when the other team has a big man blocking the paint and the refs swallow their whistles then Harden is rendered useless because he can't shoot midrange. Teams know what we are doing it's all over the league, it's just that Harden and Howard are at times unstoppable. Morey is no coach neither is Mchale, and if Morey insists on playing GM/Coach maybe it is time for him to go. As good as he is as a GM, he is not a coach.
