this man speaks the truth! Gus would own houston chicken. bbq inn has an almost oiless fried chicken that's nice and crispy, but i feel is missing some flavor.
My favorite in TX BBQ Inn kicks ass http://instagram.com/p/OwmwuFq_k-/ Lucy's in Austin http://instagram.com/p/UWzmjPq_qy/ Gus' Austin http://instagram.com/p/jU7mOFq_nj/ The real New Orleans restaurant in marble falls http://s3.amazonaws.com/foodspotting-ec2/reviews/3801737/thumb_600.jpg?1373740492
Awesome! Such nice people and a great story. First time I saw the cook, who's easily 3 bills, I thought "I guarantee that dude can fry some chicken".
Also, this thread is killing me...is 9:30 am too early to start frying chicken? Probably my #1 go to comfort meal: fried chicken (or steak/venison), mashed potatoes, cream gravy and greens or okra. Haven't had that in a couple of months.
Yeah really nice people. I had some Friday night since I was in marble falls for the HS football game. It's just a nice 30 drive down 1431 from my house so we make it a point to try to go support them every month or two. I'm thaw some blackstrap to fry up this week thanks to your suggestion!
That's great, picked a good game to go to I heard. Haven't been since the Burnet game. Hit me up for a beer next time you're in the neighborhood, hangout boy has my email & number. Yeah, I too am inspired, need to go get some venison out of the deep freeze since it's just about deer season already.
Used to love eating there. Haven't been back since the pic of the dead baby rat in the rice made the rounds on facebook. Would never eat there again.
I've been to barbecue inn countless times and have yet to ever taste their fried chicken. I just can't go there and not get the fried shrimp which is the best in the city. I guess I'll have to try the chicken at least once.
Are you talking about the Gus's in Tennessee/Arkansas? I just realized they have a location in Austin. That's a top-3 or top-4 fried chicken joint for me. I went to the one in Memphis. But for me, the best fried chicken is Nashville "hot chicken". Like at Prince's or Pepperfire. For people who think spicy/hot chicken with flavor is the way it should be done, Pepperfire is possibly the holy grail of fried chicken.
uhhh yeah... Both those places have flavorful chicken and serve mash potatoes as explained in the previous post.
That's the one. The opened the Austin location late last year. So good. I will try Pepperfire if I ever go to Nashville.
