This is the story of the Rockets regular season as a franchise. We've never won 60 games in a season exactly because of this.

Unbelievable. Our name right next to some of the worst run franchises which includes 5 Expansion teams.

Again, every team, including the best teams that actually win 60 games, blows those games. If we haven't had a 60 win season for a long time, that's because we're not good enough to be a 60 win team, not because of those games.

Expecting 60 wins from this year's Rockets team is just crazy, we're already over-exceeding expectations as it is. If Pacers suddenly decide to rebuild after this post-season and we get PG13 in a trade, then I'll expect us to win 60 next year.

You do realize they don't crown MVP until the 2nd round. Meaning they will not pick a player from a team that won't likely get past the 1st round.

It's a regular season award... Dirk got it the year he was ousted in the first round by the Warriors. They awarded him the MVP trophy two weeks later.

I assume the results are tabulated after the regular season has ended.

Dirk's Mavs were the #1 seed and no way they knew he would be knocked out before then. The NBA likes to present their MVP awards in the 2nd round to a player that is still playing at that time. See Kobe's 35+ ppg year (with 47 wins) and you will see that they don't like giving awards to players whose team hasn't been one of the best all year (and definitely not one without home court advantage in the first round)

Because they'd have to go 12-0 the rest of the way and it's really dumb to think they'd do that.

    Hence why it's not happening.

The rest of your post has nothing to do with the Rockets winning 60 games.

Btw, this thread was a nice jinx.

As J.R. notes at the beginning of his post, "Not that it means anything..."

What people need to remember is that the League is littered with 60 win (or better) teams that didn't make the Finals, much less win a title. Atlanta, 60-22 two years ago (2014-2015), Cleveland with LeBron in 2008-09, with the Cavs remarkable record of 66-16. One of my "favorites," of course - the 1993-94 Sonics, who were 63-19 and lost to the 8th seeded Nuggets, an NBA first (and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving team!). Another "good" one? The 2006-07 Mavs. Bravo Dallas! 67-15 and another loser in the first round.

In other words, and the Rockets fans around the world should know this, if anyone would, 60+ wins do not guarantee diddly squat. It's how you play when you reach the playoffs that counts. The regular season gets you your seeding, it gets you to the playoffs, it can bring a team together, it can give you, hopefully chemistry, but getting to the Finals for that rare chance to win it all? You have to win the games.

We'd have to win out in order to get the 60s wins, with games against the Warriors (2) and Blazers this week alone, then MAYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    I said maybe gotdammit.

Great retro. My all-time favorite was a 62-20 Laker team that Sampson sent packing in 1986. Knocking out a chance for a Laker repeat as Champions.
