Two potential games played by, at best (assuming all eight series go the full seven), 53 percent of the league. I've got the 1988 All-Star Game on DVD. Love it, but it reminds a whole heck of a lot of the 2016 All-Star Game. It all comes down to a close contest, then things get interesting. Had the 1987 been a 20-point game things would have been silly per usual. One of the best All-Star Games ever was in 2001, and that featured maybe the worst All-Star roster in NBA history on the East's side (that's not revisionism, I wrote about that at Chad Ford's old website the week it happened) in the worst era of ball. All about a close game.
This will never happen, but if you you want it to be competitive, simply state the winning conference gets home field advantage in finals.
