The 100 Greatest Performances of All Time from PREMIERE magazine.

At first glance I think that Jamie Foxx should be higher for Ray. I'm surprised that Johnie Deep is at #22 for Edward Scissorhands. What the hell is Reese Witherspoon doing in the top 50 for Election?

They have little excerpts on each role for the characters at http://www.premiere.com/article.asp?section_id=6&article_id=2692&page_number=1. I thought it was interesting that Deniro's mirror scene in Taxi Driver was improved, and Daniel Day Lewis listend to Eminem to get motivated when playing Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York.

    Ian McKellen was better.

Not including Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove is a joke.

I'm surprised there was no Gump up there either. It seems like they went out of their way to leave off mentally challanged characters. Like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman.

Absolutely. Although they do get bonus points for Dog Day Afternoon being so high.

The list just cries out for controversy (probably the intention). Tom Hanks, in Big, at number 14?? While Malcom McDowell is buried at #100 with his incredible performance in A Clockwork Orange?? (insert Roll-eyes here) Give me a break! Big was a light entertainment, with a nice performance by Hanks, nothing more. Orange was mind-blowing, with superb acting by McDowell, and superb direction from Stanley Kubrick.

While I agree with some of the selections, and where they are ranked, this list is a joke.

Any list without Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone in the Top 5 never mind Top 100 has no legitimacy whatsoever.

yeah i've gotta say i was waiting for Sellers in Dr. Strangelove to pop up and was surprised Big was on there over other hanks stuff and definitely was waiting for Casablance and Gone with the Wind type stuff to show up. though i suppose i should be impressed. usually lists like this are so heavily slanted towards older stuff that i figured the entire top 30 or so would be from the 30s and 40s. so at least they spread it around.

my biggest beef was Hannibal Lecter at #70. i know he only had 16 or so minutes of screen time but we're talking about maybe the best villain ever (b/c he wasn't really a villain and you liked him). it was such a perfect character and performance (and even got an oscar) that i don't see how it's stuck up at #70.

    The list seems completely random.
