^ among the first things illegals do here when the get to the US, aside from having babies and going on welfare to get a Cadillac, is to get a free Obamaphone to use for responding to Gallup telephone solicitors.

In reality, we know border hospitals are flooded with illegals having babies. I'm guessing they largely don't have health insurance. We also know illegals are eligible to apply for Medicare for those children they've snuck across the border to have. Sooo... mock away.

Indeed, and they LOVE giving out personal information over the phone to anonymous inquisitors - it's how you throw ICE off your trail.

The fact that illegals weren't polled doesn't change the fact that 7% of the population are illegals and they are potentially 80-90% uninsured and probably using emergency rooms for care.

You did a terrible job of ignoring it. Now, what difference does it make if the undocumented migrants do not have cellphones AND a land line? Does gallup not make adjustments for this?

... or that three times that population are 100% uninsured and use the emergency rooms for care, as the article states.

The reason the illegal population doesn't matter in this conversation is this:

either illegal immigrants weren't polled, and their uninsured population should be added to the article's 21%, and Texas is doing a piss poor job of providing accessible health insurance to its residents

    or

the illegal immigrants were polled, and their uninsured rate is already accounted for in the article's 21%, and Texas is doing a piss poor job of providing accessible health insurance to its residents

Or the undocumented immigrants weren't polled but the sample was adjusted to account previous estimates of undocumented population and their insured rate.

I would say 7% of the population being here illegally and having health care subsidized with emergency room visits and stressing the health care system further matters quite a lot. I bet the hospitals near the border think it matters a lot. Texas is doing a piss poor job with uninsured in general however, no doubt.

New Jersey, California, and Nevada have similar number of illegal immigrants and their uninsured rate is still much lower than ours.

We will see how well texas's economy does with low oil prices.

That very well may be the case but that still isn't an excuse for Texas' uninsured rate when compared to other border states with many undocumented immigrants.
