I'm just irritated that the Horns shot FTs so well during the A&M game after watching some of these games lately. I don't know that I've ever seen a team anywhere near this level shoot that badly (except maybe the Ags hehe).
It is, but 3 out of their 4 losses have been because of them not making a reasonable amount of fts. I mean, they've struggled scoring on the road at times but they've played well enough to win, if they had just made their fts.... They'll be one and done in the tourney if this continues... I mean how hard is it to just focus on ft's for a while... hire a damn shooting coach.
So let's see... We have a team that can't make layups, can't rebound, can't pass, can't stop defenders from blowing by them, has no heart or identity, and makes less free throws than a cerebral palsy patient. This is a joke. Kansas is going to win by 200 on Monday. Barnes should just hold open tryouts for his team, and make the basis free throws. Every game with 3 minutes left, put these walk-ons in. We will never win another close game with our current free throw shooters.
They have several issues beyond FT shooting. Even if they won a couple more games by hitting more FTs, they still look lost all too often in terms of offensive execution for a supposed elite team. They also have severe and extended defensive lapses. For all the talent on this Longhorns team, there just doesn't appear to be a lot of basketball IQ. I understand that they're young but so are some other teams. Based on what I've seen, I don't see them being able to make enough progress this season to put it all together and become legit contenders.
Of course, there are several issues with this team.... but I was pointing out the wins, I mean as terribly as they play, they could remain up in the rankings with the wins if they could just make some darn FTs. I mean I thought after one or two games of losing because of terrible FT shooting, they'd at least improve that part of their game... I do agree with you on a lot of those issues that they have.
It's completely mental at this point. These kids (outside of Balbay) can shoot the ball. There's no reason for it other than it's gotten in their heads. A game like tonight could be a good way to snap out of it. Making their ft's tonight could be the difference in a win or loss against the #1 team. If they can do that, it will go a long way towards helping their confidence from the line for the rest of the season. If the slump continues, they will not make it out of the 2nd round of the tournament.
So they just showed a stat at the half about their FT shooting: 338th out of 347 Division I teams. Win tonight can maybe go a long ways.
Don't worry, Horns were hot at the start of the year, but have hit a slump. It only makes sense that the Horns will get hot again right when the NCAA Tourney starts.
