Age is a smaller concern than personality and psychological issues; some people are just f-ed up assholes.

Deep psychological testing should be the norm before prospective police enter academy. Police departments should then repeat the testing and not hire anyone who doesn't match.

Personal cams should be required as well.

I'm not suggesting anything _ just telling you how the world is spinning... You now have a profession where you get lumped in with the likes of this kid who is beating up an old man and the other idiot cops out there which apparently there are an abundance of.

That's not going to happen until this generation and possibly the next generation die off...

No... I'm just assuming you're not Black because a black cop (or Mexican) wouldn't be stupid enough to cry about being profiled like you are.

We should move towards private security and away from unionized government cops.

Of course because we all know private security always acts conscientiously and respectful of individual rights.

It is. I've trained with and helped train LE and I fully appreciate how hard of a job they have. Most LE that I've met are good people with a strong sense of civic duty. That said you can't ignore the bad apples and there are way too many of them out there.

Protect and Serve has lost much of it's meaning when distrust between the LE and those who they are supposed to protect is so high. While this is due to bad generalizations among civilians actions like this among the police have only helped to feed that impression.

The part of the brain that deals with reasoning doesn't fully develop until early twenties...even good people make bad mistakes before they mature. Some assholes mature as well. It would weed out a lot of bad choices, like people with nothing to do that find it easy to become a cop. It should require a 4 yr degree, as well.

Next you'll be advocating privatizing the prison system. Slippery slope my friend.

Not a bad idea, but I am shocked that there is not more discussion of drug testing cops for steroids. From my perspective of having been a weight lifter for over 30 years, I think a significant percentage (at least 20%) of cops are roided up. Never heard of a cop being drug tested though.

Quite right! Stephen Fry eloquently explains why private security is better:
