Unrestricted free agent Steve Martin, an emergency fill-in for the Texans at nose tackle last season, agreed Saturday to a two-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings.

Martin, who made eight starts when starter Seth Payne suffered a season-ending knee injury, chose the Vikings over the Texans and New York Giants.

The Texans had intensified efforts and increased their contract offer over the past few days in an effort to keep Martin. New York reportedly offered the most money, but Martin opted to sign with the Vikings because he has family in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Terms of the deal were not available.

Tight end Walter Rasby, who visited the Texans last week, has agreed in principle to a deal with the Washington Redskins.

Sometimes the "hometown" factor works for you. Sometimes it works against you.

Isn't this the guy who seemed to be down after every other play?

I was happy with Martin's production when he stepped into the starting role mid-season, but outside of the Pats game he wasn't anything special.

I'll take losing Martin if it means we get Smith....and slap the Titans in the process.

come on...this guy hasn't done anything worth talking about since Father of the Bride. he plays the same exact character in virtually every movie he's in...i'm not sweating it. the texans will be just fine without him.

Oh yeah, he was perhaps the scariest looking dude in the entire league; didn't he get shot one offseason? He was down once a game, but then if I had a gut like that and played in the NFL I would lay on the ground and take a breather every now and then too.

I remember big Doug well, although that instance escapes me.

Wasn't he the one that was almost killed at home(Lou., Ala., Miss.- someplace around there) by a deadly spider bite? I think it was called a "Brown Recluse" spider, and he almost lost his leg too.
