Kevin Walter's contract is fully non-guaranteed, as the Texans gave his bonus in his first year. While Jacoby if I'm not mistaken still has $1mil in SB left, which means the cap savings for next year would only be $2.5mil. So yes, keeping Jacoby is cheaper than Walter.

That said, I think neither is worth the money unless Kubiak think passing to WRs is not important.

Cap savings for this year by cutting Jacoby is only $2M, but next year it is$4M. Cutting Walter saves us $3.5M this year and the next 2 after that. I think both need to be scrapped.

Don't like the move. I think cutting DeMeco would have stung a lot less.

This will be interesting...especially if we don't sign Mario.

Actually Jacoby does block, and has alot of passion when blocking. I still remember than one long TD by Ben Tate (think 42 yarder), and Jacoby was blocking his guy down at the 5.

I agree, for those who don't know...this is what we owe Ryans over the next 4 years:

    2012 5,900,000 1,250,000 - 7,150,000
    2013 6,600,000 1,250,000 - 7,850,000
    2014 6,800,000 1,250,000 - 8,050,000
    2015 6,800,000 1,250,000 - 8,050,000

Walter is absolutely the better blocker. That's not dumping on Jacoby, but Walter's one of the best at his position. Kubiak has all of them, Johnson included, getting their hands dirty. A lot of WRs are allergic to contact.

Really sad to see Winston go. I remember how excited I was when they got him in the 3rd round. It was the first time the Texans drafted someone I wanted at the time. He turned into a pretty good RT, although he was clearly down this past year. He's been a class act representing the organization and the city, so I wish him the best.

Rumors on the texans message board that J Jones and Demeco getting the pink slip tomorrow as well. Hate to see Demeco go, but I think it is something that needed to be done. Also the rumor is that the locker room is unhappy with the cuts.

Wow, if Meco's cut and we don't resign Mario, I'll be bummed.

I don't think it's a rumor to say that the locker room is pretty unhappy with the Winston cut. The guy was a team leader. Same will be with DeMeco -- though I hope we can re-sign DeMeco or restructure at a lower deal.

Even if demeco is cut, I can see him coming back. But even he must realize that he is making an absurd amount a money for a guy that just doesnt play that many snaps

Use the first round pick they get for Schaub after signing Peyton to draft an OT.

The other first round pick will be a WR to replace Jacoby.

That was a rumor a guy posted from a text message he received from his friend. His friend apparently heard Jerome Solomon say it but didn't have an actual source to it, so it remains to be seen if any of that is true

Locker room is unhappy, well boo-hoo. I don't see people lining up to take pay cuts, and the cap is a mandatory hard cap.

With good teams, tough cuts happen all the time. Don't see what the players want ownership to do.

Jacoby is dead man walking, but cutting Demeco would free up quite a bit of space. We should already have enough for Meyers and our draft picks, leads me to believe we might be going after Mario.

This could be a move for the future. Lock up Cush/Barwin/D.Brown and still have some cash to spend next summer.
