Damnit, I have to agree with robertthemediocre. The Texans went above and beyond in this case...much like they did with Quessenberry. They could've cut him a long time ago but they gave him the chance to rehab and still collect a paycheck. I don't have a problem how they handled it at all and I'd bet Newton doesn't either.
They couldn't cut him while he was on IR, correct? It's the nature of the business, pay him his roster bonus and everybody move on.
He’s lucky he even got the medical treatment. The NFL is the most soulless league in the world. I really don’t know why players would think any different. The league has put its protected itself before the players since forever. Look at CTE
Just another thing for ex players like Duane Brown to come and drag our team through the mud over.. Hey Duane, how about you focus on the fact that your own new team just told Kaep to stay home when he refused to stop kneeling. Newton got paid for years after not being able to do anything but rehab, fine, give him his 500K but geez this isnt like we completely effed him over.
It takes a special kind to find fault in a guy encouraging another (friend and ex-teammate) s he goes through a difficut time. He didn't even say anything about the Texans.
That's fair, but I still say that you go ahead and waste some money when it's your best player....so long as you then move on and get an even better player a few years later like the Rockets did.
That's what I initially thought too, but turns out he didn't earn the roster bonus since he couldn't pass a physical by April 1, so there's no reason to pay him. At this point you just wish him the best and move on.
That just goes to show how many absolutely toxic players the Texans had on that 2013 team that gave up on Kubiak and led to a 2 win season. Thankfully I'm pretty sure all of them are gone.
Notice I didn't say anything about Brandon Brooks. I don't respect Duane anymore, I think he looks for any way to shame the Texans. If you don't think this was a jab at the Texans, fine, but I bet he was happy to pounce.
Be prepared for the Texans to be shat on by players for a while. McNair did this too himself by not shutting up and owning.
It's good though, it weeds out the most toxic players in the league. It shows you what kind of players you don't want to have.
Not a lot of love for the Texans franchise or owner from former players. Makes you wonder if a lot of the problems start at the top.
Good for him. He was also part of a Texans team that gave up on their head coach and tanked an entire season. The fact that he didn't happen to be toxic to his team last year, or at least not toxic enough to prevent them from winning is irrelevant. When you accumulate players like that, no good comes out of it. You can get by despite having one or two of them, but the Kubiak era Texans collected toxic players and we saw what that got them.
