Manning was already going to be a FA. Cutting him doesn't free up any more money for next season than just letting him play out his contract would.
They are freeing up capspace so they can draft David Carr's brother and give him a contract that rivals his big brother's.

Agreed. Weather the storm and let O'brien and our draft picks get their feet wet, then be ready to really compete again next year. Not to say we can't compete this year, but even overachieving I don't see more than 7 or 8 wins. Also have to factor in JJ Watt's cap hit for next year though, which will likely take that $40 mil figure down closer to $30 or $25.
Yup...but hopefully the cap goes up another 10 million too :grin: In any case, with smart contracts, we should be in a very good position come 2015 and beyond.
