http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=fanball-texansmosesreturns&prov=fanball&type=lgns Texans: Moses returns by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com Thursday, March 31, 2005 News The Texans re-signed wide receiver J.J. Moses, the team's primary return specialist, to a one-year contract. Views Moses has not caught a pass during his three-year NFL career, but he did average better than 22 yards per kickoff return last season.
Im hoping we can get Sproles from Kansas State to return kicks. He will be a steal in the 3rd or 4th round. Moses has to be the worst return man in the league.
Moses is in the bottom third of the league in return average for punts and kickoffs. We could probably sign a guy off the streets that could be just as average as he is.
Believe me I am no proponent of JJ. But I remeber the games where they had other Texan players attempting to do punt returns and kickoff returns and there were near fumbles and many times the ball wasn't fielded. Believe me JJ is not the answer, but compared to the other people that tried last year JJ was better. Then again it would be great if the Texans opened up their pocketbooks to get better players this off season. ie - O-line help, Safety help, KR/PR specialist help. Currently it is hard for me to find many (or any) people that think the texans will be a better than .500 team this next season.
Allen Rossum was a F.A. but resigned with the Falcons. I was surprised the Texans didn't make a run at him.
Superbowl here we come ! I have yet to see what the Texans see in this guy ? He is not even a quality return man and definately is no reciever . Maybe hes gonna be the waterboy or something .
To be fair, JJ was a hell of a returner up until that cheapshot the Jags laid on him 2 years ago. He seemed to have gotten slower and not as crafty after that play.
Moses' best asset was his hands. He always caught the ball, and to the best of my memory, I never remember seeing him muff or fumble one away. That being said........................JJ had a bad habit of taking a dive without even coming close to being hit. He did not like contact.
