Shotgun doesn't help the QB get the ball off quicker. One of the reasons why young QBs shouldn't be in shotgun formation is because that QBs have to take his eyes off the defenders when he is snapped the ball. Doing so, the QB loses his reads. That's also the reason why Bill Walsh have never allowed his QBs to be shotgun formation.
Forget shotgun how about running no huddle every once in a while? It would keep the defense on their heels and make them react to what were doing instead of us reacting to what their doing.
everyone needs to sloooooooooooooow down; these guys are having enough trouble mastering a stripped down, basic offense. let's not start interjecting shotgun this and no huddle that into the mix. it's still a very young team lacking in talent.
anyone wanna guess why no team in the NFL runs the option? the more you expose even an elusive QB to hits, the more likely he'll get hurt. it's a simple equation and i'd be willing to bet reeves has repeatedly told vick to run only as a last, last, last resort, despite his effectiveness.

Of course - but Vick is never going to be the primary running option. He is so dangerous because he runs so rarely. If he ran 30 times a game, it would be a different story. But for a QB that just runs 8-10 times a game, and who's freakishly elusive, I don't see why his career would be any shorter or injury-prone than a pocket passer who takes more direct shots in the pocket. Especially for someone like Vick who's so fast that people are just trying to get a hand on him to tackle him, rather than loading up to take their best shot on him.
i'm not sure how else to explain it... i guess people are under the impression he's superman and thus, rarely touched. in fact, he's been sacked 27 times this year -- only five QBs have been sacked more and one (carr, of course) is on an expansion team. so he's getting hit in the pocket and he's taking 8-10 additional hits per game scrambling. all told, he's averaging anywhere from 10.5-12.5 hits per game, not to mention how ever many he's absorbing after a throw, etc... what other QBs are getting hit near that often?

But what kind of hits are they? It seems me than elusive QB is going to take fewer "direct shots". They'll get sacked more because they'll try to run/scramble more and get caught in the backfield, but they aren't the same type of shot as getting nailed in the pocket.
hits are hits. take enough of 'em, direct or otherwise, and they eventually take their toll. that's why the shelf life for most RBs is so short. and there's nothing to suggest "direct shots" are more damaging than garden-variety tackles. take, for example, the "shot" tommy maddox took: fairly innocent, but he landed wrong and wound up in a hospital. there's more to a tackle than the tackle itself and the bottom line is that more tackles leads to more chances for injury, direct shot, or otherwise.
