Texans agreed to terms with Matt Leinart on a one-year contract.
Leinart will step in as Matt Schaub's backup, ahead of Dan Orlovsky. There's a chance that Leinart's camp saw Houston as a good landing spot because of Schaub's injury history, but the stronger bet is that no other teams showed interest. The former Heisman Trophy winner bungled a golden opportunity in Arizona by failing to earn the respect of his teammates and coaches on or off the field. Leinart's long-term role in the league may very well be as clipboard-holding No. 2 quarterback.

    This is a big MEH

I think Leinart has talent but does he have HEART?
Can he not be overconfident? Feeling entitled?

I don't think the Texans made a bad deal on this.

That said. Whether this works out or not.
I think NOW is the time to find the QB for the POST SCHAUB era.
Matt maybe top 10 for another 3~4 yrs. Need to look for the person to 'groom'
[then again . . do they even groom QBs anymore?]

He's better than Dan O, but I think we can all agree that if we lose Schaub to injury, the Texans are in deep trouble.

    Based on what???

    Career stats:

    comp% Matt 57.1 Dan 55.1

    YPA Matt 6.1 Dan 6.2

    TD Matt 14 Dan 8

    Int Matt 20 Dan 8

QB Rating Matt 70.8 Dan 71.3

Pretty comparable, notwithstanding the fact that Matt's Arizona teams had far more offensive talent than Dan's.

Not a fan of the signing but heck Matt Cassell was a complete unknown and turned out okay so who knows. Either way I don't see him doing anything unless Matt goes down and we're screwed anyway if that happens.

It is, without a doubt an admission by the Texans FO that Dan Orlovsky was a terrible signing. I still don't understand what they ever saw in that guy.

Kubes overreaching again. He thinks he can 'MAKE' a QB out of anything.
He overreached with Carr when he should have cut bait.

he said what he had to in order to land a job, something many americans can relate with.

he was perfect in his assessment of schaub

he was solid in his evaulation of rosenfels

    he missed on orlovsky

rex could be considered a wash.

let's hope we can catergorize leinert similarly to grossman

Not true. He saw unrealized potential in Dan O. and Schaub, and believed he could coach them into good QBs. He was right on target with Schaub and missed with Dan O.

The David Carr situation was because he wanted the head coaching job, and you don't get a job by saying that your starting QB sucks.

I have a lot of problems with Kubiak, but QB coaching is not one of them.

As far as unknowns go, if I wasn't sold on Orlovsky, I'd have kept Booty. Leinart doesn't have that much more upside. And if his own college coach passed on picking him up, what does that tell you?

Yeah, I'm with some on here saying we should have given Booty a chance at backup. I was at the texans-bucs game and wow, Booty did impress me. He completely outplayed Orlovsky, and led the Texans back in a position to win.

Anyway, there is no way Leinart can be any worse than Orlovsky. I say give Matt a chance and lets see what he can do.

your basically taking a "flyer" on Leinart, if he works out then you are a genius, if not, you cut him and get Booty back...
