Does the Guaranteed hurt the cap . .or the non guaranteed? I thought the bonus wouldn't count . .. but the rest would I thought it was suppose to be best . . . as far as having cap to sign other folx . .. . to give big bonus but low pay Rocket River
Signing bonus counts against cap, but it is prorated throughout the contract as a cap hit. Guys with huge signing bonus's are hard to cut because any amount of signing bonus that has not been applied to cap is applied at time of cut or spread out over two years. For Brown, almost 4 million of signing bonus counts each year against cap. If he gets fat after two seasons and Texans cut him, Brown would count about 16 million against cap in third year despite not playing. Depending on time of cut, the Texans could push up to 12 million to the 4th year.
It's "official". 6 years, 53 million. Looks like that puts DB in the top 10, but not top 5 so that is a great contract for the Texans.
Another great move by Rick Smith. I have said it before and I will say it again....the Texans ARE NOT going to resign Conner Barwin. Deal with it.
You act as if they don't like Barwin or he doesn't fit. You're not going out on any limb by proclaiming that they could be in salary cap trouble with Barwin. It's all going to come down to the figure and how he plays this year, as well as what Schaub commands and how he plays. Other variables include Mercilus and Brooks Reed's production. They always have the franchise tag option too.
Saw Mr. Barwin at the Galleria and asked him when his contract was coming. He just laughed. Told him they were fun as hell to watch and he said it was going to be even better this year.
Putting the franchise tag on Schaub would cost too much...like 16+ million...thats way too high of a cap hit.
It depends on the level of franchise tag. The non-exclusive franchise tag would be less and the Texans would get 2 1st round draft picks for him if another team signed him away at a price they don't want to match. I suspect the Texans will re-sign Schaub, if healthy, before having to place franchise tag on him. The franchise tag is a last resort. I really doubt it comes to that, but you never let a good QB hit free agency if you can help it.
