It was a little bit of coaching imo. Capers is a great defensive coordinator but I dunno about being a head coach. He did have success with the Panthers. But most of it was on Carr.
Carr was just PATHETIC. All that talk about having a bad O-line, but in 2003, Tony Banks had a QB rating 14 points higher than Carr behind that same O-line. As bad as things are now, I would never go back to the Carr era. I still remember wanting to gauge my eyes out with a dull butter knife while listening to his post game interviews on 610 every Monday morning after a loss. His laid-back, care-free, California pretty-boy attitude made me want to start taking hostages. We must NEVER forget. Spoiler
I think Carr's personality ruined Carr. I'm not knocking his persona or moralistic views on life (I share quite a few of them)...but after he left the Texans, there were so many stories that started leaking out from the media, the team and his former teammates that the guy was not a good teammate at all. I remember hearing something that whenever the guys on the team would go out...David would not go. He chose to stay home. Which, there's nothing wrong with that...but from a guy who plays a position that is expected to be the team leader, especially on a team that is initially desperately seeking some sort of identity...he should've participated with bonding with his teammates. I think he just marched to a different beat than the rest of the team and alienated himself from the get-go. Pretty good guy with decent skill set...he just never had the "I Am The Man...Follow Me" mentality.
I can't believe some people actually voted yes. He was put in a bad situation but Carr never had the leadership, work ethic, passion, pocket presence or ability to read the defense. That's all on him. He just wasn't born with it. Which is sad in a way because he had all the tools to make a great QB...unfortunately none of those tools were between his ears.
It took Caper 3 years or so to tell Carr's Dad to stop coming to practices. The Texans handled Carr with kid gloves (pardon the pun).
Nope; they didn't need any help with their own ruination, tyvm. The recklessly idiotic decisions that were made just on the defensive side of the ball following the 2004 season were nuts enough to ruin a franchise for three or four years, but that is just one example of idiocy and ineptitude from the freak show that ran this joint from 2002-2005.
David Carr created a lot of the sacks himself, running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage and holding on to the ball too long.
I dont think so. Why he always is a backup QB? Carolina wanted to keep Matt Moore over David Carr. San Francisco wanted to start Alex Smith or Troy Smith over him. He had oportunities to play and prove he was good and it was the texans o-line fault for so many sacks. He started games, but always played poorly.
The point is . . . did his time in Houston . . was it so Traumatic that everywhere after that was just a result of that. Rocket River
You seem to be forgetting that he caused the traumatic experience. the guy created a majority of the hits he took, he never worked hard, was never a leader, was never a teammate, etc.
Trust and Belive, I AM NO FAN OF DAVID CARR. Never wanted him in the 1st place [felt #1 pick for this fanchise should not have been a QB at all] just rehashing the arguments I was receiving. Rocket River
