Every Houston sports fan who lived through the '70s '80s, and early '90s knew what Choke City meant. Even the Cougars managed to choke away a championship game they could not lose. The Buffalo game was the pinnacle moment of Choke City. The name "Clutch City" was born out of that reputation when the Rockets finally dispelled that choke label.

After the short-lived glory created by the Rockets, it went right back to sports wasteland with all three major sports teams floundering in the '00s. It wasn't until the mid-'10 when the Astros and the Rockets both rose to contending status.
