Post-Buffalo justifies pre. Post Buffalo isn't even good enough for post So since MIA might be worse, Houston is absolved from everything? Gotcha
People asterisk'd Spurs first title due to shortened schedule. The most belittled champion in NBA history would've been '94 or '95 Knicks. Man, that Rockets team had arguably the greatest run in playoff history. 69 champions in league history. 68 were Top 4 seed. Then there's the '95 Rockets who did it from 6th!! Glad it happened. Rockets are arguably a Top 5 NBA franchise.. definite Top 10. Just saying MJ deserves mention and the city needs more success.
Didn't say that at all.... was mainly responding to all the scarred souls in here who will never trust any sort of probability that favors Houston due to that game. Fact is, good things have happened since that game... more good than happened before that game. That game (and all the history prior) very likely represents the low point in Houston pro sports. No... but it does prove that championships don't mean everything when judging a cities sports history/fandom. San Antonio has only one sports team... but is a better sports city than many 3 or 4 sport cities. Kansas City only has 2 teams... but runs circles around most cities in terms of undying support/loyalty. Houston holds it own against cities with decades more history than them in Detroit, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Milwaukee... Houston still, despite it all, is a very young city. Anyways, you've already revealed your roots (or lack thereof) here... have fun wallowing in self-pity.
So because I think MJ deserves mention and the city should do better, I can't be from Houston or be a fan? Answer the question I posted earlier.. Would you rather MJ had never retired? No fly responses, just Yes or No Can't admit that, no point talking.
You must've missed the posts about Astro fans disowning the team behind the DH. MJ deserves mention, blame the messenger if you choose.
A shortened schedule is different than the retirement of one player even if it's Jordan. Specifically putting a Jordan asterisk on 94 and 95, to me, means you think the Rockets won on a technicality and/or that the rightful champs were the Bulls. You can put it as politely as you think you can, but if it "deserves mention," you're saying things would have been different. And it doesn't even count for 95.
Right, so now you know MY perspective. 1) the championships count 2) Rockets earned them 3) I think Rockets beat the Bulls 4) Knicks would've been the most belittled champion in '94 or '95 5) Spurs '99 has an asterisk When speaking of those titles, telling the story of NBA history, MJ deserves mention. We, as Rockets fans, bring up Jordan's return in '95 as added justification, but can't admit we wished MJ never retired. Funny how that works. Sorry to open wounds, but 'guess what'.. wounds wouldn't hurt as bad if there were other championships. There's much hope... ASTROS ballin, Rockets have potential, and if Texans can get an above-average QB or better. That is my unbiased opinion
If you really think this, then there's no need to asterisk. Unless you think something worth mentioning would change things, then fine, you're contradicting yourself.
No. I can *think* something WHILE ALSO consider a different, legitimate viewpoint. Here's another easy "yes or no" that will be ignored... Would the "MJ argument" exist had Hakeem won in '86 (or any other season)? We know the answer. ALSO.... HAKEEM > JORDAN
Regarding asterisks…Going to college and grad school out of state, Ive never met one person that doesn't place an asterisk next to the Rockets championships. Not that I agree with it, but that's unfortunately the overwhelming sentiment, regardless of how stupid it is.
People that are from outside Houston have very little respect for Houston sports. That's why you see such little Houston sports coverage in the national media. It's the reality of the situation. Sounds like you haven't been outside the Houston bubble…step out and you'll see for yourself.
Sounds like someone who'd disown their baseball team behind a DH. Similar to a Houston-born Titan or Cowboy fan.
Oh, trust me, I have. Maybe I just met more intelligent sports fans in my travels than you have. I mean, I've certainly heard it, especially from casual fans, but I've also met smart fans outside of the "Houston bubble" I understand how some people don't know baseball enough to know the difference and I also understand how it wouldn't matter to those people.....try to understand that there are people that do know the game well enough to tell the difference.
Know the difference between what? A pitcher hitting instead of an extra batter? Not that difficult to comprehend. Props on tooting your own horn for doing nothing. It's not Arena Football - NFL different. Saying DH baseball is so different is as foolish as thinking there's NO CHANCE Clowney maybe, could, perhaps be injury-prone. Disowning your squad behind a DH is the same ignorant, old-school mentality that has kept Bagwell out of the HOF. Thank God the newer generation of voters can see more clearly.
