I'm surprised by the lack of knowledge people have in googling things. Google is pretty powerful if you use it the right way. You can find almost anything.
I had learned how to do this in my early college days. Keep forgetting the format now since I don't do a lot of research.
To be fair Google is so much improved at semantic googling now that you can ask questions and most of the time get great results.
I didn't know about the date range thing. I've done specific years before but not range. And I didn't know about the intitle thing though I've never had a reason to use it before nor can I think of a need to do it now. Other than that, years of p*rn searching has trained me well.
The internet was just starting to catch on when I was in college. We mostly did things the old-fashioned way in the library. There was an online tool for interlibrary loans and Lexus-Nexus. This was before Google, but I'd use AltaVista -- though it wasn't terribly useful for academic work.
Normally I can phrase something using regular search methods in Google to get what I need. But next time I can't find something I will try using this as I had no clue about it.
