I've used TurboTax for the last several years, but why pay more for Turbo Tax if something else is easier or cheaper? What are you using this year to file your taxes?
I keep using Turbo Tax out of habit. The cost is low enough that it doesn't matter and I itemize the same things each and every year (charity, property taxes and mortgage interest). Takes about 20 mins. If you itemize, I doubt there is anything easier to use.
I use a CPA each year. I had previously used HR Block or TurboTax, and my CPA has really helped me do far better on taxes than any other way I've tried.
My friend who is a CPA told me he just uses TurboTax for the people who pay him to do their taxes. I've done my taxes by hand, and it's not that bad as long as you keep your records. I might forgo a preparer and just do it with the free forms once all my W2,1099, etc come in.
I used https://www.freetaxusa.com/ last year, probably will again. One of the few places that doesn't charge you for the filing if you have taxes from brokerage accounts. If I had a ton of stock sales I would pay Turbo Tax to pull them in. The couple I had last year though I can handle typing in myself and save $80.
Just hoping I'm back into refund mode instead of owing a crap ton like last year. I typically use Turbo Tax but I'm considering using a different one this year. I wasn't pleased how they handled things for me last year when I had some issues.
I had been using a CPA. But the IRS called me a few months ago saying they were suing me. I had to Moneygram them $5,000 to their branch in Nigeria. This year I'm just doing it myself.
H&R Block is completely free for Federal and State for 1040-EZ, 1040-A, 1040, and 1040 with Schedule A only. That's a good deal IMO.
I use TaxCut and I believe it's now owned by H&R Block. Honestly it feels no different than filling out a FAFSA.
I use taxact. I dont have a mortgage nor am i married with kids. My taxes are simple. And taxact is free and simple.
Back in my 1040EZ days would just use TaxAct. Now they're a little more complicated + married with a mortgage, going to a CPA this year after using HR block last year.
