You mean the team with SAM PRESTI - Mr Analytics - as GM??? Seriously, I've been asking, where have all the Rocket fans gone? All I see last few weeks is a bunch of whiny b****es and I don't know which team they support.
Analytics love Westbrook. The number show that he isn't a good shooter but overall he's a great player. Pretty much what the eye test shows. Do you have links to any analytics that said that Westbrook isn't a great player? Just because he's not a great shooter doesn't mean he'd not a great player. Analytics looks at much more than shooting. I agree that we have a lot of work to do to catch OKC. Getting a 2nd star would be a start. Then we can ISO as much as OKC has been in this years playoffs. They are running ISO 30% more than the Rockets did in the regular season or playoffs so we need to close that gap.
A guy with a degree in communication is Mr. Analytics? Why don't we say everyone is Analytics guru. Westbrook at least from the offensive end is an anti Morey player. He takes too many mid range jumpers, and is not a good 3 point shooter.
Analytics back up what the trained eye can see. No one has ever said Westbrook is not great. Stats and eyes tell you he is a competitor of the highest order. DD
How do people still not understand what analytics are?!? You people have taken one minor aspect of analytics and dumbed it down to the most simplistic, and just plain stupid, narrative. Westbrook is an analytical darling.
The term analytics is over used. Do you think Presti knows what linear regression is or what Eigen Values are? Does this look like Morey player:
Lots of shots at the rim and tons of free throws. Yes that's a Morey player. Morey would also tell you that Dwayne Wade has been a great player despite the fact that he doesn't shoot the 3 well. You do also realize that Morey looks for other things in addition to shooting, right?
One could argue he looks too much at other things and not ENOUGH about shooting judging by all the poor shooters he picks up. DD
Too many midrange shots tbh. Otherwise I'd be inclined to agree. But the midrange and attacking the rim is what makes WB so deadly. If he was a tad better at the 3, best player in the league.
The hilarious thing about this is that analytics was what made the Thunder choose Westbrook in the draft. The management was going to select Brook Lopez, but Sam Presti hired an analytics consultant to run numbers for him and give them a suggestion on who to draft. The consultant told them Westbrook should be the pick. They obviously went with the consultant and chose Westbrook.
The problem we've had is that players underperformed, poor team defense, and a lack of consistent 3 point shooting. The analytics were not the issue.
