That may be true but I'm not sure it paints a better picture of the owners and it just shows more of how they feel about their own clientele.
yea... You aren't getting in the Houston location if you are black or Asian. Place is crazy strict at the door over their pretend dress code.
This is more a reflection of racist crowds than anything else. Business is a battlefield. You do what you can to make money. Many bars attempt to keep their clientele looking a certain way because they think it's good business. Don't blame the bar owner, blame the patrons who won't go if the crowd doesn't look like them. Thousands of companies' marketing departments discriminate on a daily basis attempting to woo desirable customers. If you sell Mercedes for a living and have a finite amount of time on your shift, are you going to approach wealthy looking people or poor looking people? But what is perplexing here is why minorities would want to go to a bar that does not want them there? What's the point of that? Going to a bar is a recreational activity -- meant to enjoy one's self. Why go to a hostile environment?
I love when issues like this come up and people defend the racists and blame victims. I am referring to the recent post which just implied minorities should just go somewhere else and that it's totally cool to discriminate because of the notion that customers discriminate. Maybe that's the problem. If you cater to racists, and assume your only way to make money is to cater to them, then you are doing it wrong.
Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to be passive in my judgement on how stupid and vulgar you come off. If it came off that way, I do apologize.
Believe it or not, he's 100% right. *edit: except for that last part is kind of dumb. why would minorities want to go to those places? probably because their friends go there. The managers/owners of Kung Fu aren't doing this for fun. They're doing it because it is profitable. The only way to stop this kind of behavior is to stop frequenting bars that practice discrimination. Vote with your wallet.
Most of midtown is like this. If you are black they will tell you are wearing baggy jeans even if they aren't. If you are white you can wear some shorts and a shirt and get in.
What does the law actually say on this? This has been reported for years at various places, and I don't recall anything ever done about it. Is it actually legal?
